I had completely dismantled this Pocono to clean it up and repaint. i have it all back together but I remember reading about a new gasket on the back of the grate. Could someone please explain this a little better, maybe a picture. I want to make sure I get everything right.

You can talk to your local LL dealer to get the exact gasket material they use. I use a piece of 3/8" round fiberglass rope and attach it to the grate where it contacts the stove body in the back. I glue it on with high temp RTV and let it dry before assembly. If you look at the grate it is a U from the end view, I cover the entire U with the gasket material, although the bottom is the most important.

By sealing this area you prevent air from leaking up in the back of the grate which can allow the fire to burn up into the hopper.

If you look at the back of the grate where it meets the stove body you can see the gasket sticking out the side

These picture are when its ready to light up? What is the 3 differnt areas on the grate (rice, lump? ashes?), also what are those band things you have on there?

The half circle bands are a handy device that keeps the fire from sliding off the grate until it settles in, and yes you are seeing ash, then some self lighting or soaked in lighter fluid charcoal brickettes for lighting and then the coal. I put some ash on there first and then put the coal down, make a V shaped groove in the coal and put the charcoal in, then cover it a little with the coal to make sure it gets hot enough.
