Don't forget to thank a labor union for having a day off today!

Unions have their place, certainly the miners needed one. The way it used to work was they would pay these immigrants just enough so they were perpetually in debt, the company owned the town, the store and everything else so they would make sure the cost of living could not be met. Practically slaves as they really had no choice. worked 10 or 12 hours a day 6 days a week. Working conditions were deplorable and men frequently died.

The trouble with unions today is many of them have gotten greedy, workers have gotten lazy because they know they can't be fired and many other problems like corruption and political agendas. The union itself is no longer solely looking out for the interests of the workers that need it, especially those that really need it because their wages will never bring enough cash to their coffers to justify organizing them.

I'm sorry. If Monday and Tuesday weren't my regular days off, I'd probably be working too.

I'm not complaining. This is the first holiday this year we've worked - it's usually 24x7x365. We're going full steam ahead now & cover all OT. Can't say I haven't enjoyed the time with the family the slow period gave us but it came at a -25% cost, 60% of that is perminent.

Thanks for the reminder to send you some links, Chris - dot.com at my employer appears to be going through another growth phase. Or you can go to their corporate site and search them out but I also saw a couple things on the internal list that we get before it hits the public site.

Trafic Jam...
11 mile back up from the canal bridges and growing...
Hunker down and hide...
The summer folks are leaving and you can enjoy walking along the beach roads again.
It was quiet by the beach, nice to watch the sun go down...
