Blaschak or Kimmels

PostBy: Body Hammer On: Tue Sep 08, 2009 10:55 am

I have found two suppliers of bagged nut in Knox county,Maine. One sells Blaschak for $315.00 a ton. The other sells Kimmels for $390.00 a ton. I think it's a no-brainer. But is one that much better than the other?

$390! I hope you mean $290! I burned both last season and noticed no difference in the coal. The Blaschak bags are a lot cleaner.

I wished it was $290.00. But that's the price. They did said .50 a bag off if a ton or more. But that would still be $370.00. Might as well burn #2 oil if the price stays the same as it is.($250.00 gal)

That's INSANE!!! My dealer sells Kimmels at $265 and Blaschak for $280 and I live at the top of the state! Kimmels has always been $15 cheaper per ton. At that price you should burn #2 oil. #2 oil is $2.65 here.

Got up that way just once. We went camping for a few days at Aroostook state park. Drove all over the place for awhile. Very nice area. And gas was even cheaper there then! I can't believe the price of coal around here.

Wow, thats expensive coal! Find a new dealer. Get the dealer list from Blaschak, and call the close dealers to you.

Make sure the price they gave you is for a ton and not for a pallet. Kimmel pallets are fifty, 50# bags or 2,500lbs.
If The $390 price is for a pallet that = $312 a ton (2,000 lbs). The price in 04578 is $390. for a pallet.
Also the Kimmel nut anthracite was much bigger in size and more like Blaschak stove coal. The Kimmel burned much better in my hand fed last winter.

@$2.50 a gallon it would be about $450 to equal 1 ton, you're still saving but I'd agree that's pretty high for coal. I think Freddy paid around $250 a ton for delivery of trailer load and that was when the fuel prices were through the roof.

Thanks for the info. I knew that Bkaschak was 2400 lb pallets. But I didn't know that Kimmels 2500 lbs a pallet. I thought she said 40 50lb bags. But I really don't think she understands all she knows about it. :D I'll check with them. That makes quite a difference on two pallets. I did send a request for dealer info to Blaschak. I haven't got to Kimmels yet.

I checked with the Agway that sells Kimmels. Simply put, it's $9.75 per bag. I guess there's some complicated bagging process they use, where they have to spray a coat of GOLD in the bag first. :D;just joking. So I just crossed them off the list. I ordered two pallets of the Blaschak from Storer Lumber.$315.00 a ton,$390.00 a pallet, two pallets delivered for $830.00. This will be my first year with coal; but four cord of fitted wood around here is running about $215.00 a cord. So I think I'm still ahead. From what I have read on here, It's a much more constant heat. And hopefully no more trips to the basement at 2:00am.

at 250 a gal for # 2 fuel oil coal would have to be 440 a ton to compare the two you are still cheaper burning coal
but 390 or 370 is still nuts for that coal .

With the paper mill right there, isn't wood cheaper? Whats that big harvesting company? Its been a few years since I have been there....
$289 is not bad for Blaschak. I paid $239 a ton for it, and I am 30 minutes from NEPA.
