The President's Speech

PostBy: Dann757 On: Wed Sep 09, 2009 9:56 pm

Well I watched it, I'm so numb I don't know what to think. Are they gonna force me to buy health insurance? Very similar to mandatory insurance for my junky jalopies.....I probably should look into it. I'm a sole proprietor of a small small business; pretty tough to consider for me.
It seemed like a pep rally or even an arobics class with all the standing up and sitting down. I guess I'll wait the four years until they all figure out how to do it.......

You will be "nudged" into a financial reality that will result in two options, complicity or if you so choose you may pay the fines.

Some choice.....but hey, people voted for change and change you shall have.......in spades.

Well let's start with his proclamation that we need competition, sounds reasonable but since federal law is the primary roadblock preventing competition sounds pretty hypocritical to me. Furthermore if I heard right they will be able to participate in the government run "insurance exchange". So we won't allow competition unless the government has it's hand in the cookie jar? Do I have that right?

On a personal note he mentioned Geisinger being successful and if I had brick in my hand it probably would have went through the TV. He can tell that to my dearly departed friends mother who buried her 26 year old son after being sent home from the emergency room 2 times and then having to be flown to Danville on the third visit in a helicopter where he died of an infection. I have one dead friend AND nearly lost a brother because of that hospitals policies so please forgive me if I don't think it's a success.

Well he was accurate of course. The "gang of 6" dems met today to supposedly close the illegal alien loophole. No problem. Acorn will just get them "documented."

Yep, bless him for showing the world just how rude him and his ilk are and digging their little hole a little bit deeper. He did the Dems a great favor last night.

"him and his ilk"?

Last I knew he was the only one to step out of line like that at that event. He was out of line blurting out like that. If he had been 10 seconds earlier it would have been drowned out in the broader rumblings Obama's initial comment on the subject brought out, but he was alone at the time and it stuck out like a sore thumb. He apologized very quickly for his breach of protocol and manners and it was accepted.

Now the important question: Was he right in his accusation? Was it a lie to say that illegal immigrants will not be covered under the plan(s)?

It is true enough that there is a specific section saying specifically that illegals should not be covered by any federal subsidy for health insurance under the plan. However, it is equally true that there is no means detailed in the plans to discover one's legal status nor a mechanism to deny subsidized coverage based on legal status. It is also true that amendments to put in place such safeguards and put some teeth into the otherwise hollow promise of the section mentioned were blocked by democrats on the various committees authoring the bills.

The section that says no illegals will be covered is a hollow promise, leaving a hole so wide Air Force One can fit through it. It's a maintained as a false promise because congressional democrats (and assumedly the President himself) want it that way, as a fig leaf designed to provide rhetorical cover to Democrats, interest groups and others pushing the bill. It's a formulation to snow over those uninterested in the practical effects and realities of the bills when taken as a whole, should one be signed into law.

Agree Paul, it's illegal to be in this country to begin yet their are millions of them here. They have contact with law enforcement every day that are fully aware they are illegal yet they are let go for a variety of reasons. There was case here where a local police department had detained a van full of them, the feds were either really slow to react or didn't at all and they ended up being let go because the police department didn't have the facilities to keep them. Law enforcements hands are tied therefore the law is practically meaningless.

Someone is paying for them now, aren't we? You pay for them, I pay for them, even people without insurance pay for them when public hospitals write down the cost of their care or cover them via charity care.

And I suspect that won't end once health reform is in place. Just because they are here illegally doesn't mean they won't get hurt or sick and go to the hospital. Short of kicking them out the door (which won't happen because it would violate the hippocratic oath), I don't see how anyone expects them to not be covered in some way or form. Not saying I agree with it but fact is, they are going to get sick and go to the hospital and therefore, someone somewhere pays for it.

The real problem is:

We already have socialized medicine

For old people we have medicare.

For poor people we have the emergency rooms.

For the uninsured middle class we have bankruptcy.

If you really don't want socialized medicine medicare needs to be cancelled and ERs need to turn away people who can't pay.

We have socialized medicine, that argument is over. The question is do try to get a better actuarial pool?

But how many of them are receiving long term care or really expensive non emergency procedures? I understand they will end up at the emergency room for emergency reasons or borderline emergency reasons but if they are able to take advantage of insurance they will also be able to take advantage of many other non emergency medical care. Dialysis? Bypass heart Surgery? Chemotherapy? These are things that aren't going to be treated in an emergency room.

Furthermore if there is no measures in place to insure those receiving public insurance are not illegal we're going to have a flood of people coming here from Mexico in the hopes of getting long term medical treatment. If you're in Mexico and have no hope of receiving medical treatment their it's a pretty big motivator to enter the US illegally if the system is shown to be open for abuse like many of the other laws governing illegal aliens. Because of that alone we need something in place to insure non citizens are not receiving long term treatment.

Sounds cold hearted but providing medical care for every citizen in this country is going to be expensive let alone providing it to non tax paying illegals.

Subject: NOW - This is a President!!!

America, Canada , all Europe ...... needs a President like this

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd - Australia

Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia , as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.

Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques.
Quote: 'IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians'.

'This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom'. 'We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society . Learn the language!'

'Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.'

'We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.'

'This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom,

'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'.'

'If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted..'

Maybe if we circulate this , American citizens will find the backbone to start speaking and voicing the same truths.

I found his attitude one of arrogance, as if he was tired of people opposing him.

I also am amazed that this health care "crisis" has managed to take center stage pushing Iraq, Afghanistan, the war on terror, and national security out of the picture.

How can healthcare for all be more important then national security? I suppose the terrorists are all laughing at "Dear Leader" and his current preoccupation as they quietly plan their next attack.

The phrase "war on terror" has fallen out of favor: Obama avoids using it, he says, to keep from offending Muslims.
