Broadband promised to unite the world with super-fast data delivery - but in South Africa it seems the web is still no faster than a humble pigeon.
A Durban IT company pitted an 11-month-old bird armed with a 4GB memory stick against the ADSL service from the country's biggest web firm, Telkom.
Winston the pigeon took two hours to carry the data 60 miles - in the same time the ADSL had sent 4% of the data.

This is humorous as it really shows the limits of one technology and the how far along another has come. An IT company in SA pitted a pigeon against the local broadband. To be fair the only reason it could win is because of the small amount of space needed for the data storage. 10 years ago it never would have won because there wasn't anything small enough for it to carry. I have a pretty fast connection myself and could upload 500mb in less than 1 hour which is pretty fast but the pigeon could still beat that over the distance described here.
