Have you checked out Costa Rica? I have and it is an amazing country, sort of like this country 50 years ago. Hard working, and self reliant people, very solid 50 year democracy, no military so no military uprisings, excellent & inexpensive healthcare, cost of living 20 cents on the dollar (now at least - better convert those dollars to gold while you can). And last but not least the most beautiful country you will ever see. And in this economy, property is on SALE!

Government Expertise

The U.S. Post Service was established in 1775 - they've had 234 years to

get it right; it is broke, and even though heavily subsidized, it can't

compete with private sector FedEx and UPS services.

Social Security was established in 1935 - they've had 74 years to get it

right; it is broke.

Fannie Mae was established in 1938 - they've had 71 years to get it

right; it is broke. Freddie Mac was established in 1970 - they've had 39

years to get it right; it is broke. Together Fannie and Freddie have now

led the entire world into the worst economic collapse in 80 years.

The War on Poverty was started in 1964 - they've had 45 years to get it

right; $1 trillion of our hard earned money is confiscated each year and

transferred to "the poor"; it hasn't worked.

Medicare and Medicaid were established in 1965 - they've had 44 years to

get it right; they are both broke; and now our government dares

to mention them as models for all US health care.

AMTRAK was established in 1970 - they've had 39 years to get it right;

last year they bailed it out as it continues to run at a loss!

This year, a trillion dollars was committed in the massive political

payoff called the Stimulus Bill of 2009; it shows NO sign of working;

it's been used to increase the size of governments across America , and

raise government salaries while the rest of us suffer from economic

hardships. It has yet to create a single new private sector job. Our

national debt projections (approaching $10 trillion) have increased 400%

in the last six months.

"Cash for Clunkers" was established in 2009 and went broke in 2009 - -

after 80% of the cars purchased turned out to be produced by foreign

companies, and dealers nationwide are buried under bureaucratic

paperwork demanded by a government that is not yet paying them what was

promised.

So with a perfect 100% failure rate and a record that proves that each

and every "service" shoved down our throats by an over-reaching

government turns into disaster, how could any informed American trust

our government to run or even set policies for America's health care

system - - 17% of our economy?

Maybe each of us has a personal responsibility to let others in on this

brilliant record before 2010, and then help remove from office those who

are voting to destroy capitalism and destroy our grandchildren's future.

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government

from wasting the labours of the people under the pretence of taking care of

them.

whats a title mean??

"In June, Many of us witnessed the arrogance of Barbara Boxer as she admonished Brigadier General Michael Walsh because he addressed her as "ma'am" and not "Senator" before a Senate hearing.

This letter is from a National Guard aviator and Captain for Alaska Airlines. I wonder what he would have said if he were really angry.

Babs:

You were so right on when you scolded the general on TV for using the term, "ma'am," instead of "Senator". After all, in the military, "ma'am" is a term of respect when addressing a female of superior rank or position. The general was totally wrong. You are not a person of superior rank or position. You are a member of one of the world's most corrupt organizations, the U.S. Senate, equaled only by the U.S. House of Representatives.

Congress is a cesspool of liars, thieves, inside traders, traitors, drunks (one who killed a staffer, yet is still revered), criminals, and other low level swine who, as individuals (not all, but many), will do anything to enhance their lives, fortunes and power, all at the expense of the People of the United States and its Constitution, in order to be continually re-elected. Many democrats even want American troops killed by releasing photographs. How many of you could honestly say, "We pledge our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor"? None? One? Two?

Your reaction to the general shows several things. First is your abysmal ignorance of all things military. Your treatment of the general shows you to be an elitist of the worst kind. When the general entered the military (as most of us who served) he wrote the government a blank check, offering his life to protect your derriere, now safely and comfortably ensconced in a 20 thousand dollar leather chair, paid for by ;the general's taxes. You repaid him for this by humiliating him in front of millions.

Second is your puerile character, lack of sophistication, and arrogance which borders on the hubristic. This display of brattish behavior shows you to be a virago, termagant, harridan, nag, scold or shrew, unfit for your position, regardless of the support of the unwashed, uneducated masses who have made California into the laughing stock of the nation.

What I am writing, Senator, are the same thoughts countless millions of Americans have toward Congress, but who lack the energy, ability or time to convey them. Under the democrats, some don't even have the 44 cents to buy the stamp. Regardless of their thoughts, most realize that politicians are pretty much the same, and will vote for the one who will bring home the most bacon, even if they do consider how corrupt that person is. Lord Acton (1834 - 1902) so aptly charged, "Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely." Unbeknownst to you and your colleagues, "Mr. Power" has had his way with all of you, and we are all the worse for it.

Finally Senator, I, too, have a title. It is "Right Wing Extremist Potential Terrorist Threat." It is not of my choosing, but was given to me by your Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano. And you were offended by "ma'am"?

Have a fine day. Cheers!

Please circulate this to remind every voter that the "cesspools" MUST be pumped out when we go to the polls in November, 2010. Honoring and respecting the voters is a thing of the past for many of those in our congress and senate. We need to vote their arrogant, self serving asses out of office if America is to get on the long road back from the devastation that these self serving cowards have brought upon us! To Poconoeagle,
The USPS is not subsidized. It has been off the federal budget since the early 70's. When USPS makes a profit, Congress takes the money and spends it. When USPS loses money, they have to raise rates because Congress spent the money they made in previous years. USPS is the cash cow of Congress. Kinda tough to compete when you can't keep your profits for a rainy day.

With regard to the decline of the U.S., my mother told me back in the 60's we were watching the fall of the American Empire(obvious reference to Rome). Her reasons were many of those already listed but also included the rise of silly lawsuits and as she would put it, "Too many spoiled kids." When I was a kid if I tripped on someone's uneven sidewalk, my parents wouldn't sue, they would tell me to pick up my big clumsy feet and watch where I'm going. If I got a low grade in a class at school, they told me I needed to work harder, not convince the school they needed to change because my self esteem might be damaged. If I complained that I was bored and there was nothing to do, they didn't buy me a toy to keep me occupied, they handed me a rake or a broom and told me to get to work. Nothing was for free in our house. If I told my Dad I didn't want to cut the lawn he'd ask me if I wanted to eat tonight. Dinner was at 5pm. every night. If you weren't at the table at 5pm, you didn't eat. If you didn't like what was being served, you didn't have to eat it, but you went hungry. These days I hear women at work talking of making 3 different meals at dinner because all 3 kids don't like the same thing. These days you can't spank your kids because it's child abuse. If my parents hadn't whooped my butt when I was little, I'd be dead or in jail by now. Makes you wonder how today's kids are going to survive if the world doesn't treat them like they're used to at home. Oh, I forgot, the government will take care of them no matter how bad they screw up. It's someone else's fault, not theirs and not their parents.

P.S. Poconoeagle, your post with the letter from the pilot is great! I loved that. Unfortunately for us I don't believe the American people will do anything about the corruption in Congress. Much like the people of Rome, Congress will keep the American people satisfied with "bread and circuses", the people will eat the bread, cheer the circus, and let Congress gather wealth and power around them as the empire falls.

As a country we are mortgaged up passed our eye balls. China is about to stop buying our treasuries. Congress is about to pass a 2 trillion dollar health care boondoggle with no way to pay for it. Illegals are costing my state alone 2 billion dollars a year. The fed gov't is no running over half of the economy and climbing. At a time when we and much of the world is in a recession, our leaders want to tie one hand and a leg behind our backs with cap and trade. I'd say we area on a steep downward slide.

IMO the decline of the United States was started by the debt funded, conspicuous consumption of the middle class in the 1980s. That trend continued through the 1990s and has only slowed down in the last year.

Everything else follows that.

We have a congress who overspends on credit because we overspend on credit.
