That is actually a much smaller crowd than I was expecting. There's hardly anyone past 3rd street.

From some of the images I've seen I'd have to say at least that. That one shot of the street view from what I think was CNN with all the surrounding buildings had to be 100K itself and that image didn't show the entire crowd.

But Erik, can't you see? There's millions upon millions there, maybe even a billion!

Should be noted it was the Democrats that estimated the crowd was going to be in the millions. ;)

Surprisingly can't find reference using google search for news on anything but Fox, might be there but I'm not digging through a bunch of results:
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/09 ... l-turnout/

Crowd doesn't materialize and they claim it's failure. A crowd of 200 or 300K which is probably close to the actual figure is certainly a large gathering. I'd have went except it's 5 hours from here. Maybe next time. ;)

Another point of interest, the National Park Service broke a 13 year policy of NOT reporting crowd size just to report on the 2009 inauguration crowd size. (The USA Today image I posted earlier.)

This link is broken, either the page no longer exists or there is some other issue like a typo.

Now they have decided to return to the policy of not reporting, why do you suppose that is the case?

Also, the MSM would run stories for weeks ahead of any proposed previous marches/demonstrations but chose to ignore this one.

An inauguration of the first black president is an event of historical significance. A run of the mill protest (and 99% of them are run of the mill - one notable exception being the Civil Rights March on Washington of 1963) not so much historical significance.

And running stories in advance? I saw lots of articles about it and they weren't on Faux News as I generally don't tune into that rubbish. How much advance reporting do you think outlets like FauxNews gave to the anti-war protests of several years back?

And finally, the graphic from your last link? Did you read the accompanying sidebar? The ticketed areas of the inauguration were very tightly packed, the grassy areas where people stand not so much. Of all the pictures I saw of 912 teabagging, nobody was tightly squeezed up against their neighbors. Even the so-called "experts" on crowd counting that are often quoted in the news (whether Faux or any of the MSM outlets) and in print estimated only 60-70000. For some reason, I doubt they have an agenda.

BTW.

Publishing under their name and saying this was a university study (as Glenn was doing yesterday) is ridiculous.

Whatever the numbers are it really doesn`t matter, it`s getting their piont across which was supposed to be about taxes but sounds more like Obama bashing. Sad if they strayed from the oringnal agenda. The good point is they held it on a weekend unlike the million man march, heck the country lost almost a hundred man hours of work for that event.

As with the Acorn information, the march also proves that the media is not biased but is actually complicit in obfuscating the news.
