So why not level Iran now?

What attack? If you consider my postings an attack what do you do when things really get wound up? Your making this statement doesn't make it true. Success and accomplishments are measured in so many ways; being rich and famous doesn't really matter in the long run although I agree it helps. :D I was stating observations and opinions that your postings - past and present - have given me and those posting will continue to be my foundation of who you are just as my postings are all you know about me. First impressions are lasting especially in this environment. I can live with that. It doesn't really matter at this point, it is what it is.

You missed the point that the US had made a commitment to Eastern Europe and we did it because it enhanced the defense of both of us. Those E. European countries know only too well the dangers presented by Iran and other nuclear owning nations, i.e. Russia. Our current administration knows that too but is choosing to ignore it. Sadly, ignoring the truth isn't going to make it go away. Dropping our commitment to them isn't going to make Russia or Iran swipe their brow and say shooo that was a close call. They know that putting the shield defense on ships is a joke. It will embolden them and our world just got a little more dangerous. Why do you think Russia is so opposed to our missile defense? The fact is that it leaves them offensively impotent and they know it.

I hope you have a great weekend. I hear the weather up your way is going to be great! Lisa

http://www.reuters.com/article/2009/09/ ... FP20090919WARSAW (Reuters) - Almost half Poland's population supports a U.S. decision to scrap a planned anti-missile system partly based on their soil, a survey published on Saturday showed.

Russia has scrapped a plan to deploy missiles in a region near Poland after President Barack Obama dumped the Bush-era plan for a US missile defense in Eastern Europe, a Russian deputy defence minister said today.

Vladimir Popovkin told Ekho Moskvy radio that Obama's move has made the deployment of Iskander short-range missiles in the Kaliningrad region unnecessary.

"Reason has prevailed over ambitions," Popovkin said. "Naturally, we will cancel countermeasures which Russia has planned in response, such as the (planned) deployment of Iskander missiles in the Kaliningrad region."

So why not let Israel handle it as they have in the past?

Better yet, why not stop funding the World Bank, the Export/Import bank and a few others so that Iran doesn't have the money to build a weapon?

Does it make sense to fund your enemies?

So now it takes 10 minutes for the missiles to get their instead of 5. The missile shield is not to prevent a Soviet attack, the sheer number they can launch from who knows how many places makes the possibility of protecting anyone from a nuclear holocaust very improbable unless the capabilities of the system is far beyond what the public is being lead to believe. For that matter like the ship based interceptors the nukes off our coast in the subs are the greatest threat.

Having said that be quite humorous if 20 years down the road we find out they did the same thing Reagan did... "...fool me twice, shame on me"

Iran is much harder for Israel to hit in the way they did with Iraq at Osirak. It is much further away. It is a much bigger country. Realistically they have to overfly Iraq (where the US controls the airspace) in addition to Jordan. Overflying Saudi Arabia was the key to the Osirak raid. Overflying Saudi Arabia would be much more difficult now since the US sold the Saudis AWACs (and F15s). But even overflying Iraq the Saudi E3's will see them coming.

For the Israelis to hit Iran with a sneak attack would require Saudi complicity.

How operational is the Russian boomer fleet at this point? Here's an amazing picture set of a few decaying Typhoons.

I know they have more boats at sea then in years past, the fleet was decaying for decades but word is they are patching them up now.
