Painting an EFM
Can anyone provide the do's and dont's with painting one of these units? Do I need "hi temp" stove paint or can I get by with something like Rustoleum? How hot will the base get VS the boiler? I was planin to leave the metal jacket and insulation off to provide some heat in my garage.

The stoker mechanism is painted with enamel or even regular water-based paint. The base might be a bit hotter though. The boiler should hold up well with stove paint, black.
Well, I went out on a limb based on some input from someone I talked to about painting my efm 350. I ended up using Rustoleum paint:

It worked out very well. I painted the boiler and the base. The base is holding up well even with the hotter temps. The hammered finish is great and hides any pits of imperfections. Just FYI.

I restore hand fed cast iron sectional boilers and use rustoleum paint. One thing to remember, the paint will never get any hotter than the water inside the boiler. accept on the fire doors, clean outs and smoke hood. Even with this in mind I have never used high priced high temp. paint and have never hand any problems with pealing.
