U.S. Northeast May Have Coldest Winter in a Decade
By Todd Zeranski and Erik Schatzker

Sept. 28 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. Northeast may have the coldest winter in a decade because of a weak El Nino, a warming current in the Pacific Ocean, according to Matt Rogers, a forecaster at Commodity Weather Group.

“Weak El Ninos are notorious for cold and snowy weather on the Eastern seaboard,” Rogers said in a Bloomberg Television interview from Washington. “About 70 percent to 75 percent of the time a weak El Nino will deliver the goods in terms of above-normal heating demand and cold weather. It’s pretty good odds.”

My daughter found a fuzzy-wuzzy caterpiller that had very little black on both ends. It was almost allll brown. THAT confirms it.
Brrrrr..... NO WAIT! I burn coal! We will be warm and toasty! :D :D :D

Coal toasty here also. Bring on the cold and the snow and the wind. I can't wait for it here in the Michigan snow belt, lake effect snow.
Speaking of wind had a 52 mph gust a few mins. ago, was making the whole house creak.

That hairy bug just confirms what I read in the Farmer’s Almanac. This is projected to be the coldest, wettest winter in a long time but I’ll be toasty. I have an extra ½ ton of coal sitting in my back yard. I can't wait! :D

Supposed to be bitter cold in the central US, not to bad on the coasts but plenty of snow.

First the news said a very cold winter, then just this morning the news said prices will be lower to heat the house this winter since a mild winter is now predicted. To top it all off every single one of the wooly worms I have seen are not white, are not black or even brown, they are all tan colored in this territory.I am getting mental whiplash!! Since I tend to be a black/white type this whole thing is starting to hurt my head.I think it is best if I just go mow the yard one last time and admire my coal pile and let whatever happens happen.I remain ready.Mike

BRRRRRRR is right.

Just got out of the pool for the last time this year. 52 degrees .

I think I'll close it next week. Unless we get some warm sunny days.

Brrrr... Well not really but we sure do have an awful lot of the white stuff on the ground for around here and more forecasted for tonight and over the weekend. We had a high of 39* today and expect an overnight of 29* along with 4 to 6 inches of new snow on top of what we already have. I guess the wooly worms were right on the mark! Lisa

Yeah you guys are getting pounded down there! :o Normally it's us getting all the snow -- we haven't really got much at all this season. The Cape actually got more than us inland guys as well. Strange winter, for sure.

Wonder how Al Gore is keeping his argument alive while his home state is also under a blanket of snow? :gee: :funny:

I may have misunderstood, but a real old farmer told me that if you saw a wooly worm walking backwards on a downed birch over a creek going from east to west,it meant alot of snow  :shots:
