I can burn both. There are 3 burners I know in Wadhams... Champlain has a 6 T minimum plus miles. I need to build some coal bins this spring and load up.Rob R. wrote:I used to buy from Hulbert's as well. This year I bought a TT load and split it with two other "burners". Do you burn nut or pea?
If this winter is milder than last year, maybe the coal in bulk will be cheaper this summer.... I don't know, My friend is running 3 coal stoves in the old county home in Whallonsburg. So really we have 5 stoves burning that I know of.

Rob where you at? I'm sort of in the middle between Potsdam and Malone in the Adirondack park. I got a quote from Hulberts of 265 a skid for nut.

That sure doesn't seem right, but if that is what they will sell it for....go buy it! My COST per ton this year for bagged Kimmel's was $265 per ton. Perhaps they have a skid of sun damaged bags or something that they are pricing at a discount.Thomas12980 wrote:I got a quote from Hulberts of 265 a skid for nut.
Tom here, from Poland, NY. This is our first winter burning coal. I am using a Hitzer 50-93 in the basement, burning nut coal. Except for weather below +10 deg., the oil burner doesn't come on. I am interested in where others in my area (Utica) are getting nut coal. So far, I have gotten coal from three sources and find that some coal burns poorly, creating excessive ash and not enough heat. Recently I've discovered a source for Blaschak anthracite and am amazed at the difference in reduced ash and increased heat output. This source sells it for $295/ton.
I'm also looking for help in finding a new blower for my stove. Just today, the fan quit working. So far, I've been able to find replacements only on the internet for around $200. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the FORUM tg. How big of a house are you heating & what do you have floor vent/heat distribution wise?? I've been useing Blaschack from the git-go & have been real happy with it. Again welcome my friend. Wise decision on your choice of stoves. Stick a box fan behind her until you track down that new blower. Can you get a ceiling fan any where near the stove? Hey George, is it a tad chilly over on your hill?

Fastcat, we do indeed have a Grainger branch in the Utica area. Thanks for the tip! I'll be giving them a call about the blower motor.
Fred,
We have a two story Italianate home with about 2700 sq ft. All the floor vents are tied to the oil burner so the heat from the coal stove comes up from the basement in two ways; radiation through the floor, and up the open cellar way door. My wife and I were just talking this past week about putting additional vents in the floor to allow more heat up to the first floor. Thanks for the advice about the box fan, already done.

We have been burning coal for three years with a Reading Lehigh. We are in Camden, NY. We pay $295.00 for a ton of bagged coal which includes delivery.
