Need help on adjusting feed!!!

Need help on adjusting feed!!!

PostBy: vwgtiman On: Sun Oct 04, 2009 9:57 pm

Ok, I am looking at this efm 350 w/ a S15 stoker on it and I am trying to understand how I can adjust the feed... Now, I am not dumb, but everything I read is conflicting with what I see... It IS an S15. Says it right on the plate... It is a 350... BUT, I am told that I should be able to adjust it down to 1 click if I wanted to (not that I want to but possibly only 3 now). It is currently set to 4 clicks. My issue is if I loosen the bolt that holds the connecting rod I cant get it any closer to the center of the shaft thus lessening the throw of the stroke and therefore having less "clicks"........ 4 is the lowest I can go!!!??? If I go the other way the clicks go sky high. I dont know how many but over 7 I am sure since 4 is where it is at all the way against the reducing box shaft. I got some #'s off the parts hoping to look them up but it appears that efm doesnt use these numbers in a manual or part list....
G1084
G1088
G1417
Please tell me I am not crazy. Could this be a S15 modified to feed like a S20 / 520???
Thanks to anyone who can shine some light on this one. By the way, what are good settings for the summer, fall, winter, sping?
I WILL loose sleep over this.

Not sure if i have it right, but i have my old 520 set at 4 clicks w/ air intake set at 5 all year long. The thermastat and timer take care of the rest. We have blenty of heat for our hot water when the thermastat is not calling for heat.

Is there a casting number on the conn rod itself? One of the above?

Been there, done that. Sure, someone COULD have done something to change the cam settings; changed the cam or who knows what. Some clever folks down in NEPA, or elsewhere. If you are loosing sleep over this, you need a day off.....not worth a 'dirt nap' over. You are on the right track, and before the day is done, you will have solved the mystery.
The more important question is: is the boiler running satisfactorily? I'm betting on 'yes'. :!: :o

1088 is the conn rod nr. We have one remaining NOS at efm. Last one. It was used on the S20 stoker, so you have a mix and match unit.

Ok, then it was what I suspected (not all S15 parts). So that being said, what does the S20 part G1088 connecting rod give me then? Thanks for all the help.

Don't know. The important thing is to adjust the feed and air to get your 2" wide ash ring and slightly darker center. If that keeps up with your house on the cold days, you found the right settings.
