Same thing here as we have distinct situation. The elderly population in this area is very large. A lot of them live in these small very old homes. A lot of them might have been coal company homes many years ago. The kids have moved out long ago and when the parent dies no one wants the house. They can't get much money for them so someone from out of town or a "slumlord" will pick it up. Now I don't blame these people for wanting to get away from crime and violence but it follows them here. There's been many neighborhoods that have been turned into what I would term a slum over the last two decades. These were all decent places to live at one point. They aren't mansions but people had pride and the kept them up. The new people have no sense of neighborhood or if it's section 8 the landlord don't care as long as his checks keep coming in...
When I was kid murder A was big news in the Valley, you don;t have more than month go by now without something happening. Ineviatably someone that just moved here or in some cases not even from here..
Where I live specifically crime is still very low but the housing here doesn't fall into that category.
According to Police Chief John Baujan, it's exactly what the department needs.
