Coal fired steam train excursions in Phillipsburgh NJ

Don't know if this had been posted here before, but I just found out that there is a antique coal fired steam train running in the Phillipsburgh area. We went on their pumpkin train excursion last Saturday & it was fantastic. It runs along the Delaware river, stopped at a corn maze, then alittle down the line stopped at a pumpkin patch. Was great for the kids & us grown ups as well.

By luck we sat in the 1st car behind the engine with the windows open, I smelled that familiar & comforting smell of coal burning, felt the steam mist as it wafted thru our 1950's vintage coach. Heard & felt the grand old lady chugging doing her best to get us to our destination, like she's done for the last one hundred years or so. Very cool, like stepping back in time. Another nice thing is that it wasn't packed, it was like a secret or something...

Very well worth the trip for you NJ guys & Eastern PA guy's. It runs about five miles, with the stops your out a good hour and a half.

On our ride back from the station we were picked up by a diesel engine, but with 1960's vintage double decker coaches which was cool too, we sat upstairs in the coach, did I say they were cool? they were. We met up again with the old lady at a switch in the track, we got to see her work her magic from a different vantage point, was a great point to take pics of her.

The people running it were all very nice, all volunteers.

we started running our fall foliage trains last weekend and they run every weekend till the end of the month

Here's an update on the locomotive, VigIIPeaBurner clued me in. It isn't old, infact it isn't even American made..... it was built in CHINA in 1989!

It's still worth going to though, was a nice day.

HaHa Chris, that quote about being the only steam locomotive in NJ was from their website page that I pasted, wasn't from me...

I got a 8year old, and a 4year old. We WILL be going on both.
We did the Flemington/Ringos train ride MANY times, but they still don't have their Steam loco running yet.

i believe there still some in service but they are being replaced by diesels.
also if you have the money they are selling completely refurbished locos.i think for steamer like they have in pburg nj is going for around $250k

How big are they? are they consolidateds, Northerns, Challengers?
