Temperature setbacks

I have a LL Pocono setup in my basement heating about 850 sqft on the first floor (no ductwork). When using the setback for day and night, what has everyone found to work the best?
The coaltrol T-stat is mounted on first floor just outside the stairs going into the basement. I have been messing around and found that it does take several hours for the stove to get the feed rate up to meet the new setpoint when raised by 2 points. It dosnt seem to be overshooting by more than 1 point, so i think its working good.
Just wonder if it is really even worth bumping it back at all. Do people keep it higher during the night and lower during the day ?

I wrestled with this all of last year. I tried having 4 thermostat times during the day each day that the temp would vary with a low end of 67 and a high end of 73....I found that I burned through a lot of coal...this year I am trying 4 setbacks but no more than a two degree change between each timeslot next to each other. I think this way the stove will use less coal...will report back!

I set mine back about 3-4 degrees when we all leave in the morning and then about 2 hours before I get home the Tstat will ramp up to about 74. This works for me. Usually setting the coaltrol back more then 3-4 degrees will cause the stove to over fire and you won't gain much with a setback.

I would go more than 2-4 degrees max. I just leave it alone, it will overshoot normally trying to catch up and crank the heat for a while....

I just leave mine at a set temperature, since it does take a while to heat back up, if you use it, set it an hour or two before your want it to be hot.

Seems to be working very well keeping the thermostat with in 1 degree and only using 37 lbs of fuel on a 45 day/39 night degree day with my koker set at 9.5 CCW and 666 pins.

Used a lot more fuel.

I have not monitored fuel useage as much as performance. 4 degrees max for temp change. Yes give it 1 to 1.5 hours to respond. I crank mine up at nite to make up for heat loss as sun goes down. It is an awesome controller. I burned a hand fed with bi-metalic control for 27 years. This is coal burning in the 21st century, and the way to go.
