Small Doorframe Mounted Fan?

Trying to find info on doorframe fan. I had read about them last winter being discussed in this thread. I am looking to buy one before I fire up. I had read in here that the Lowes/home depot models are not very good. I know what I read had other suggestions for makes/models , but I cant find them in any searches Ive done. Any help would be appreciated

Frequently called a 'muffin fan'. Any stove shop or the go look on ebay. Keep an eye on quality for sure. You don't want the "Hook and Ladder Boys" stopping by because you saved 5 bucks.

I found the few that I remembered some guys chatting about at northline express.com. Any one out there have any experience with any of those three fans? thanks

I got my door frame fans from a company called Suncourt - www. suncourt.com. The model is Entreeair. I have three of them in the door frames of my stove room. They seem to work out but it's hard to tell. I also have a floor fan on the far side of the stove aimed to toward the rest of the house and one aimed toward the upstairs. When they are all combined the farthest point - the upstairs bedrooms are able to maintain 67*. I'm happy with that. Lisa

I wanted them to move air from a heated area, through a very small 6x4 hallway, to another room. They were almost completely useless -- just didn't move enough air to make a difference.

I have used one of them to blow directly on the side of my stove. It cools the side by 100 degrees or so, so that's putting extra heat into the room.

I used two in our house (single-story ranch) for the past three years with a wood stove - worked pretty well, but make a LOT of racket - constant midrange WHINE all of the time. Last year I bought 40 ft. of insulated duct, a 6" in-duct fan, AC vent grate / boot and air return grate / boot and installed in the ceiling between the living room (stove room) and back of the house. WORLD of difference - NO noise, and moved a TON of air compared to the small units. Don't forget that you can move cold air and get the same effect - you don't HAVE to move the hot air... it'll move to replace the cold air that you've evacuated from an area....

Yes. Very quiet if you hold it in your hand, or suspend it with soft rope. But when bolted to a door frame with the standard bracket, even slight vibration is amplified like the sounding board of a piano. Press your ear against the door frame and you will hear a surprisingly loud growl. As jfgovern says, do it right with the right equipment and you will be happier.
