I have an idea for a modification to my LL Pioneer LE Back Vent and wondered if anyone has tried this. Might also be an option for LL to offer (then I could just buy one rather than try and make one).

My Pioneer has a duct top so I can supply air to the upstairs. I run my duct fan so that it blows air down the stack and out the front of the stove. After much experimenting I found this to work the best. The vent upstairs acts as a cold air return. I also kept burning up duct fans when I tried to "suck" the hot air upstairs through the vent. Anyways, its a great setup with the coal-trol upstiars. Very happy.

However, for this setup, I removed the blower fan that sits on the bottom right corner. This is the fan that normally blows the air up and out the front. So now I have nice warm air that blows out the front and some that now blows out the blower hole at the bottom. This hole is about 4" from the brick and basically gets pounded with heat and gets quite warm. I thought about capping this hole, but the air coming out the bottom is much warmer than that coming off the top front. The air running down the back of the stove must have more time to pick up the heat off the stove. So I still want to capture this heat.

So last year, using some flexible aluminum ducting, I just typed it to the hole direct the air out the front under the bottom of the stove. But it doesn't look too nice.

I'm thinking of trying to fabricate some kind of duct that can screw on where the fan was, but scopes down under (or around) the stove to blow the air back out the front.

Has anybody else tried this, have a design that works?

I made up my own heat jacket that pushes the air over the stove with an additional blower on a temp switch, as not to get the blowers too hot by being inline, it pushes the air over the stove and upstairs and I wanted it was quiet as possible.

Here's my jacket. Works quite well and I don't loose as much heat in the basement... :)
