Always needing to log in........

Always needing to log in........

PostBy: oliver power On: Sat Oct 17, 2009 4:15 pm

Is anyone else having to always log in? I'm always being prompted to log in. Mostly when replying, or changing boards. I would think logging in once, if that, sould be enough.

Do you tick off "remember me?" And...if you delete your cookies you'll have to type in again.

I went through the same thing 2 weeks ago. Then, mysteriously, all was well. Wish I knew why. Packard Bill

It's your ISP and security setting I have in place, I've had one IP for the last year and the one previous to that for 3 or 4 years. You've had 4 in this thread alone. ;)

XXX.XXX.123.456

The fist two sets (XXX.XXX) were checked to match the session. The only reason I didn't check the last two sets was because AOL does the same type switching except only the last two. Your ISP is changing all four sets which is why you are getting logged off.

I'll remove the check and that should fix it.

Richard S. wrote:I can't fix something if I don't know there is a problem. If there is something wrong even if it's as mundane as misspelled word (other than in posts of course) please let me know. There's various reason why I might not be aware of a problem such as it being related to a specific browser, a feature I don't use, you might need to take specific steps to duplicate it or maybe something makes perfect sense to me because I understand it but it doesn't make sense to you. For example there was a bug where in IE8 the text in the posting panel would jump all over the place when you had enough text that it was filled. I'm sure it was quite annoying for IE users but since I don't use IE I was unaware of the problem.

I get reports occasionally but inevitably the report is "This doesn't work". It''s like calling up your mechanic and telling him your car is broke, hanging up the phone and expecting him to fix it. :D

When you have an issue please provide the following information:

  • Link to the specific page if applicable.
  • The browser you are using.
  • Describe the specific steps you took especially ones that might be out of the ordinary, for example if you are uploading images and never have a problem but have an issue uploading a very large image let me know that.
  • Provide any errors or other information when the problem occurs, you might just get a blank white page for some errors but let me know that.

Even if something doesn't make sense let me know, if you expect something to work one way and it doesn't let me know.

Have you deleted the cookies?

Are you using firefox? I had recent issue like this myself and it was FF problem that requires a bit more.

There is file in FF that can get corrupted, the following will nuke it and all cookies. FF will recreate file.

First close firefox and Go to:

Code: Select all
C:\Documents and Settings\<you name>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\Default User

You'll find these two files there:

cookies.sqlite
cookies.sqlite-journal

Rename them:
Code: Select all
cookies.sqlite.bak
cookies.sqlite-journal.bak

Open firefox and it should create two new files in that folder.

Try logging in, if it deoesn't work you can always restore those files by deleting new ones and removing the .bak extension.
