how long till the new smell burns off

bought a new hitzer 82 conected it to the chimney . i have had 3 wood fires that lasted a couple of hours each still smells some and sets off the smoke detector sometimes . how long should this last ?

might take a few hours or longer, are you burning it HOT for a good hour or so?

You have to have a couple fires in it before it stops smelling completely. I could smell paint for the first week of firing the new stove, but it was less every day. Shut down every morning, restart every evening. About a week of this, before no more paint smell noticed.

Yeah, cooler temps will take longer to burn off, but they are the best for keeping the color uniform. With black you'll get lighter spots if you fire it real hot. Usually after 24 solid hours of burning, all the smell/smoke will be gone. Most of it within the first few hours.

Always better to run it cooler & deal with the stink for a bit longer.

Too late now....That's why I always recommend burning off paint outside, BEFORE installing in home. Results are no smoke/smell in home. It can't possibly be good for your health.

Fired up my LL Pioneer for the first time just to cure the paint, and i must say i think this winter is going to be a nice warm winter inside. Love the heat that bad boy puts out and how controllable it is. I did go with the low heat for the slow cure, like suggested. It didn't smoke to bad either, just cracked the windows in the house and let it air out for a while. Wish i had gotten this stove sooner.
