Bummer man! My husband has convinced me to let the stove go out until the day time temperatures drop and stay there. So it looks like I won’t be in the “one match” club this year after all. Oh, well I knew that when I lit the match last week. Such is the choices you make to be warm and toasty. I haven’t had any problem keeping the stove going but realistically, as DK says, “we will only have to run the gas furnace for an hour in the morning just to take the chill off and the cost of gas for that hour verses the cost of coal is just about the same.” But the house is just too hot with the stove going during the day even with all the windows open. We have been flirting with highs of 70* degrees or more here in the Nation’s Capital during the day and the forecast is for more of the same for the foreseeable future. In years past we have lit the stove in mid to late Nov and I expect that’s what will happen this year, too. Enjoy the coaled weather, I’ll be thinking of you. Lisa

As expected I let my Mark I go out on Monday, the weather has been warm during the day here as well. I have used the Alaska to heat the house in the early mornings as well, then it's back to blowers off and low fire to heat DHW. Cooler weather and rain is forecast for later this week but probably not cold enough to relight the hand-fed.

Ok, New rules for N.J. The one match starts on Nov 1. Anything before that does not count.

I use a butane fireplace lighter. Been using that "One match" for many start-ups now :D
