I just had a Triaxle come up 150 miles from NE PA with 22 tons of rice. I worked with Tim at Sherman Coal Co. So far it burns nice I think it's 10% Ash. Hard to judge if it's all of 22 tons? The Tarp it got dumped ontor is 20x30. It spilled ove the back and the sides of the tarp, and left 2-3 feet excess on the front of the tarp. I filled up the Bin, with about 4.8 ton, and coved the rest for the next 3 years..

And where are you located? Wondering if something like that is feasable for me too. Have about 5 acres but most of it is wooded and sloping.

I burn about 5 Tons a year, which seems really good to me concidering its 3400 sq/ft + 1000 finished basement. The boilers heat alone seems to keep the basement dry and confortable. I'm in Slate Hill, NY 10973. The Grain Auger in the pictures can load the bed of a Pickup in 5 minutes flat.... Wife thinks I'm nuts, which I am... but I tell here this is a better hobby then Restoring an old Indian Motorcycle or building a hot rod.... at least I save some money. The Tires on the Truck sunk in about 2 inches.....

What are the disadvantages of surface mined coal, less volitles? It's White Ash and burns like the stuff I hauled in 5 gal buckets last year as a test sample... I paid $175 ton delivered

Nothing wrong with Sherman coal one of the breaker on my list to buy from White ash & Red ash mixed coal all depends what veins the mining Co is in at the time they take the Mine Run /Raw coal to the breaker for Processing .Coalbrokdale wrote:What are the disadvantages of surface mined coal, less volitles? Cool, does it look like 22 tons... ? It may be hard to tell from the pictures, but seems like to can fill the bin another 3 times, which is just under 5 tons. I know the quailty of coal can vary, I had a bag of blackshak from last year and it had a metal shovel head in the actual bag....crazy

That load must be pushing the limits on height!! Triple sideboards......
A word of caution to all you coal nuts: don't automatically think that every tri-axle will be able to negotiate to the wee corners of your property on delivery day. It worked out this time, but YOU are responsible if the truck gets stuck off pavement, or to clean up the mess if he has to dump it right where it lands when stuck. Proper prior planning prevents p.ss poor performance.
Thirty years working with concrete trucks give one a new perspective on "Use Your Head". 40 to 50 ton loads every day gives new levels of understanding to a driver who is asked to do the impossible and to when folks bitch about the wheel tracks he or she leaves as a result of delivery. Read the fine print, it clearly states that YOU take responsibility when the vehicle is asked to leave a public way.
By the way, good deal, good trucking company (or independent) and we now know where some extra coal is stored if needed if the revolution starts this winter! (just kidding)
Yes, it looks like 22 tons, AND you got a very good deal!

You have heard about the 'Message in a Bottle'....Blashak uses 'Shovel it a bag'...AND they don't charge extra either!
Very thoughtful for a company that is so busy all the time.
It is probably a tracking device used like an electronic bracelet. If you are a 'Coal Virgin', it is an excellent way to protect your honor!! Was there a TSA number on it? After 9-11, everything is suspect!

The weight slip from the breaker should or will tell you how much the load was all coal breaker have scale's right there itCoalbrokdale wrote:Cool, does it look like 22 tons... ? is PA law the Driver must have it before he leaves the breaker and hits the Black top Road .
Well you will not find or should not find any more metal Objects in Blaschak coal bags they installed a big electromagnet
above the conveyor Table where the Raw coal comes into the breaker to keep out any metal Objects that might be in the coal Being there into Old deep mine gangways with the Drangline they where Pulling all kinds of stuff out of there
the 15 cubic Yard bucket does not care what is there it takes everything with it . Also when you have several million
dollars wrapped up in Automatic bagging machine They don't want any metal Objects in the coal either going threw the Machines .
I happen to work at the deep mine that Sherman gets there deep mined coal from and can atest to its quality. Were pulling out of the Mammoth now and it sounds like coke bottles coming down the chute when we load it. The stripping coal that goes in to the breaker is pretty nice too. Jeddo coal also has a magnet on the raw coal belt line for the same reason as Blaschak does. We are down into old gangways etc etc and pull quit a few rails out with the 85 yard bucket on the big lad. It's kind of neat to go down to the scrap iron pile from the magnet and see some of the stuff it pulls out like old spikes buggy wheels, bolts, and chain.

Did anything resembling Jimmy Hoffa turn up yet? Could be surface mining only projects, it hasn't been the necessary several thousand years required to create coal. You have a 'Bagged Treasure" in your possession! (sounds like something that crawled into the back seat of your car while you were inside enjoying a brew or two on a Friday evening......)
On a recent flight, I looked out the window just before departure and a guy with coke-bottle glasses on was holding a mysterious part in his hand that had fallen out from under the flaps. HE LOOKED PERPLEXED!.... as did I! It ended well, no geese in the inlets, no wings departed said aircraft unexpectedly, and as the Brazilian make commuter jet took off, all I thought about was the scantily attired girls of Rio..........just a fantasy....probably the sudden increase in pulse rate would kill me anyway!!
Need a tractor to enjoy distributing your coal? Many available up here. 40 to 60 HP class would be great in your neighborhood.
