How long can we run with out blower on?

How long can we run with out blower on?

PostBy: Paulie On: Sat Oct 24, 2009 10:28 pm

I am curious as to if there is a heat limit on what is prudent to run the stoves at with out the blower running. I realize
that some heat is lost up the flue this way, but the quiet may be worth it. Will running it on radiant heat alone cook the
fan motors? I know the coal trol kicks on the blower if it is off too long, or speed is less than half of feed rate. But with
the blower disabled, how hot is too hot? Do they even get too hot?

My guess is that you will get some natural convection
through the fan. The fan on the pioneer is located
down low on the stove and will not be affected by the
heat of the stove. You may confuse the Coal-Trol a bit.
I jammed a wood shim under the convention fan to cut
down the hum a little.

Just yesterday for the first time ever I played with a coal-trol. Sweet little unit! Of course we didn't read the directions, but did notice that you can set the fan speed at any level you want. If set at 20% it flows plenty of air to wash heat away, yet is nearly silent.

Hey guys, how much is a coal-trol? I'm wondering if it's worth retrofitting my Alaska 140 auger with one of those babies. The controls that came with it seem th control it rather well already but the techie in me just begs to tweak it as much as possible

IT would problaby get pretty hot, but some convection up thru the top and/or ductwork to a certain extent. It may start to smell hot.

Yes, the coaltrol depending on the feed rate runs the blowers very low, or you can override them at a certain % and it will stay at the level and automatically kick up if the feed rate exceeds a certain level.
