Nov 2nd....Don't forget to vote!

PostBy: Freddy On: Mon Nov 02, 2009 9:00 pm

As my first post as moderator, I ask all of you to get out tomorrow and vote!

You all may have noticed I pretty much keep out of political stuff, but I do have my opinions, and if you disagree...fine by me, we can still share a drink. That being said I will voice how I feel on two of the questions....

The gay marriage one.... I have no problem with what other people do. But, ya know...when the blacks wanted equality they didn't ask to be called white. I don't feel the gays should be called married. I am voting "yes", which means they cannot marry in Maine. If they called it a "civil union" or "a partnership", I'd probably vote for them, but the word marriage is for one man and one woman.
The other is the excise tax on cars. I hate that tax! PA doesn't have it at all, BUT...they are not asking us to repeal the tax, they are asking that brand new cars, and hybrids don't have to pay. In other words, the people with money that can afford the tax, don't have to pay it! Voting this change in will not change the tax on older cars at all. It's It's like they are leaning on the poor for all the road tax! I will be voting against the change.

Feel free to step up and spout off... this is the Maine forum. We can talk about them folks from away & they can't hear us....can they? ;)

Do you-guys have the "Vote-by-Mail" ballots? This is the first year I didn't have to drive down to the local firehouse to vote. My wife and I applied for the "Vote-by-Mail" ballots, and got the ballots about 3 days later. Filled it out, then mailed it back to the county clerk. Couldn't be simpler.

If I lived in Maine, I'd be voting same as you. 100% agree with you. It's unbelievable some of the bills that politicians are trying to get through these days. We all know why they want the older cars to pay THEIR taxes for them... The audacity of these jackasses is just unreal. Since the O-man got in, they feel like they can do whatever they damn please!

MA already went through that gay marriage bit ..... wasn't a shock as to how they would vote in this ultra-liberal bastion...

Yup, I even got one of those "I voted today" stickers on my T-shirt.

There's still time! Go vote!

I saw two people that I knew as I was leaving the polls. Both said the only reason they came to vote was to vote yes on one...that is... they voted against the gays getting married. Both of the said they didn't give a hoot if the gay want the same rights, just don't try to call it marriage! . One man & one woman is marriage. Two of the same sex is a partnership, a union, a something, but it's not a marriage!

I also voted that staring at goats is a tax deductible hobby...did you notice that one at the bottom of the page?

The motor tax was a sneaky one.

55% tax reduction for vehicles less than 6yrs old (yeah who wouldn't want that, oh wait, you mean my property taxes would necessarily increase for the budget shortfall.)

3 year EXEMPTION for hybrid types. (Yeah, those poor folks are going to GO GREEN by golly.)

Geez, In Mass we weren't allowed to vote on gay marriage. The state was more concerned about gay rights than ours to vote on it. Freddy, I feel the same way on the matter. Why dont they call it garriage or something, anything else. Make up a word for crying out loud.

Well! The gays can not get married. My wife was saying on the radio yesterday they were talking about "how come they didn't use a different word", and the answer was ..... They WANT the word marriage. The fellow on the radio claims the gays talked about it and the word marriage is what the whole vote was about....not equal rights, not civil unions, they wanted the word "marriage". On TV this morning they said this has gone to vote in 31...or was it 37...states and every time has been rejected. They wanted it to pass in Maine because for some reason "As goes Maine, goes the nation".

Garriage.... I like that one! LOL

Also.... Medical marijuana passed. Good! There are some that find it helpful and now they will be able to get it. Or so the new law says. 10 or 15 yrs ago we voted to make it legal, but there was no provision to actually get the product. Now there can be "storefronts". Mixed reaction here, but I do think those that need it should have it.
