- Stoker Coal Boiler: Leisure Line Pioneer Rear Vent
Hello fellow Massachusetts coal burners.....
I'm Pete and I'm located in Athol. I've been heating with coal since 1999.
Last year I replaced my 33 year old Alaska Stoker with a new Leisure Line
Pioneer Rear vent stoker. It does a great job heating my 1920's 8 room colonial
with some insulation.

Welcome, Andrew. It's a great forum and you can learn a lot from these folks. When you go to buy a house, talk to someone who knows the ins and outs of that process. I'd bet there are people here who can help. Check online classifieds for used coal stoves. People around here don't know what they have. Good luck.

One of the few great things about living in Mass is that there are lots of Coal Stoves available. When the time comes I will probably take a road trip to the Chubby factory and pick up a nice reconditioned blower model. You are correct I have seen several nice Base heaters cone and go on craigslist couldn't believe what people want. Just saw an Oak Stove several months ago looked like it was in awesome shape in NH for $500 that said must go LOL! I should havve just ran out and bought it.
Hell yeah! I had a lightly used Chubby stove at a friend's house for about a year. When I went back to reclaim it, he sheepishly told me he had sold it. He was really down on his luck that year so I didn't bitch him out too badly. He's an attorney too. Lucky he's a friend. Now, though, he knows he's on call for some free legal help ANYTIME I need it. It already came in handy when my son had trouble at school (not of his own making).
Meantime, my wife had her antique dealer friend find me an antique pot belly in great shape. I'll install it shortly. She got the "friend price" of $95.00. The original Chubby was free so if you think about it, I have a free lawyer for less than a c-note . Sweet deal, huh?

Not too shabby. Seems like it's not difficult to get in trouble in a public school nowadays, they are ass backwards. We home schooled our kids for years after a run in with our local school system.
I couldn't agree more. My sons are autistic. The little one needs the public school. That one is excellent. My oldest is in middle school. He's a bit like Sheldon from Big Bang. We've discussed homeschooling him because of the social pressures. Still, I think he'd benefit from being around other kids, just under more controlled circumstances.

Thank you. I don't know what I need exactly. My friend has some surplus from an install he did years ago. He's going to give it to me and help with the install. Cost will be a case of Bell Haven Scottish ale. Still, I'll show him your post. He likes this site very much. Wicked informative. (Locals know why I used that adjective .)

I knew a guy from Nashua back in college who every other word was "ahhww wicked".
never heard "quistia" (not even sure how that's pronounced), and I don't hear wicked or pissah much anymore, but maybe that's cuz I'm getting old, or running with the wrong crowd.
so much new slang has crept into modern language.
good thing there's http://www.urbandictionary.com to decode. . .
sounds like you have a good deal going. the Bellhaven is good, but I'll stick with the Smutty IPA.
(despite living in JP for 23 years, I've never liked Sam).

Greetings fellow Masscoalers,
I'm Andrew from the South Shore. I've been Burning coal since my parents bought our first Chubby Stove in Plympton back in the early 80s.
I buy my coal from both Eastern Ice and Tractor Supply. at $4.99/ bag or $250.00/ Ton bagged there is no advantage for me to purchase loose coal.
I heat my home with 2 Chubbys on either end of the house and burn about 3 ton a season. I also have a restored Chubby Sr. for sale as well.
**Broken Link(S) Removed**
I own 2 homes and have had great luck with these stoves, The parts are readily available and they are easily maintained.
After maintaining coal fires for over 35 years I know what works for me..keeping it simple... keeping it real..and keeping the house warm! don't hesitate to ask any questions about burning coal..I've been around the block on this subject and have driven all over Coal country;)
Lets have a great Year 2015
Godbless;)

good price so far from PA. please consider adding this to the thread regarding ton pricing for 2014-15
No details on the Eastern Ice site, I see Tractor Supply sells Kimmel's. how's the quality?
