I think everone likes Freddy because of his humor and his good nature. Most folks that I know from Maine have a real dry humor. I though it might be fun sharing some funny Maine joke ans sayins.

A guy from Massachusetts is driving around Maine lost. He sees an old man sitting on his front porch. He stops and asks,"can I take this road to Bar Harbor"? The Old said," Seems ta me Baaa Haaaba's got all the roads it needs.

Monitor - Keep an eye on that wood stove.

Windows - What to shut when its cold outside.

This is a true story.

In the late 70's I was living and working on Mt Desert Island, Home of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Summer draws tourists like cows draw flies. One morning I was washing the windows on the front of the upholstery shop where I worked in down town Bar Harbor. I was on a 6 foot step ladder doing my job when a sleepy eyed fellow walks over from the motel next door. I'd guess they had arrived late the night before. He stopped under my ladder and stared up until I gave him a look. He asked "Sonny, can you tell me which way to the ocean?" I looked down, quite straight faced and serious and said "Well, sir, you are on an island".

Another true story, though it kind of pokes fun at an original Mainer (me).

I was out for a walk with the dog a few years ago, when a car pulled up, man and his wife in front and the back seat full of trash bags. They asked the way to the town dump. "Turn around and go back the way you came," I said. "When you get to the end of this road, turn left. Then take the first paved road to the right. Not the first ROAD, that's a dirt road, but the first paved road. After that it's the first road on the right."

They thanked me and drove off. I thought about it for a few seconds, then asked the dog, "I wonder if they know it's not open today?"
