firing a jotul 507 in dover - on the odd weekend that i have time to mess with it! i would like to run it more often, but have trouble keeping it running it steady. i have bought from lebanon coal in maine, cleaned some out of friend's unused crib. i started it up during the ice storm dec 08 without much of a clue and later found this forum.

Checking in from Dorchester NH 1st week of burning coal just had so much trouble with pellet stove bought a Harman TLC 2000 hand fired stove and so far its great I just can't believe how even and warm the heat is. Bought a pallet of Blaschak for 396 yikes way to much I think but hey was only game around. So Im looking to cut cost in the future.
I would love a place to get coal reasonable I just checked a place in PA that will deliver me a truck load for 252 per ton that was $198 a ton and 54$ per ton delivery charge .900 bags 22.5 tons 18 pallets of 50 bags ea. 1.25 ton a pallet. Anyone interested in going in on this. We would need a forklift some place to unload it all. and a get it home. its Penn Keystone coal. Anyone interested should get in touch with me would be great to get a bunch and buy a truck load at 252 thats 144 less then what I paid. How do people get in touch with each other on here????

I cant wait to move to NH. I hate CT.
I sure hope NH never turns into the liberal moron state that CT has. I plan on buying property in the KEENE area and building on it. All I want is about 3 acres or so.

If you plan on bringing any of those liberal ways with you please stay in CT. We have enough flatlanders moving here crying about the ways of were they come from then when they get here they try to instill there ways on us.

Bootstrap...welcome to the coal forum. A few words of advice, hold your comments on politics until you have been here a while. This is a nice state to live in, but it is NOT perfect either. Regarding liberal ideals, remember you have a right to vote as does anyone over 18, unless....you know the exceptions. Exercise that right, and encourage you family and friends to vote also. That way you have made an attempt to share your views in a productive, legal way. While there is no income tax here, there are plenty of other ways to collect the 'tariff' the gov't needs. Your Real Estate Taxes will open both eyes, so don't slip on Rose Colored glasses, it is still getting more liberal here.....monkey see, monkey do, is how all the political growth evolves.

If you need any info on coal suppliers in the Valley area, let me know, I'm about 50 miles from Keene....and it is not that wide a state. Boiler or stoves?

Coal prices are higher than the 'nuts on a Giraffe' in Keene and for no particular reason. Just a Heads-up......

I don't count....I am a life long Mainer, but I have a wife from Lisbon NH! Sure wish I could get the inlaws to burn coal, they complain about not having 2 grand to pay for the oil to heat their house, yet hate all the work that goes into heating with wood...so they don't. Unfortunately they tend to worry a lot and heard a story about a hand fed coal stove blowing up and not only would they never have coal in their home, they are afraid of it in my home.

Too bad, I really think coal would work well for them. They shiver at 62 degrees all winter and wonder why their daughter and the Grandchildren never visit from November to May!!

the jotul 507 has been firing almost every weekend that has been cool enough. this year's secret is dry, dry hardwood - finally managed to get enough split and stored in the shed. also bricked up over the fire box due to the cast plates being burned up. seems to draft better this way, but still keep the coal below the top of the original fire box top. burning blischak nut from macmanus in barrington.

I can't tell you all how much I miss burning my coal stove. I moved to AZ in 2011 and I really do miss it no need for coal here.

Really to bad they feel that way, They seem to forget that wood-stoves will blow to if not properly looked after. Hey if you open the door to quick on any stove give it to much air to fast your gonna get a big puff maybe more.I really think it less likely with coal than with wood. I know for certain they would be a lot warmer with a lot less work and probably less money with coal.Nothin like sittin by the coal stove watchin the blue ladies dance.
