Nick Balzano, president of the local Service Employees International Union, told Allentown City Council Tuesday that the union is considering filing a grievance against the city for allowing Anderson to clear a 1,000-foot walking and biking path at Kimmets Lock Park.

"We'll be looking into the Cub Scout or Boy Scout who did the trails," Balzano told the council.

Balzano said Saturday he isn't targeting Boy Scouts. But given the city's decision in July to lay off 39 SEIU members, Balzano said "there's to be no volunteers." No one except union members may pick up a hoe or shovel, plant a flower or clear a walking path.

...and the funniest part is that it's Obama that has been pushing the Volunteerism. Ridiculous...

These people realize that thinking and comments like this are a major reason unions have a bad rep, right?

Yeah, didn't think so.

Andy Stern visited the White House 22 times between Inauguration Day and July 31.

Hillary Clinton has shown up in the log four times.

Maybe they are pissed that the BSA paid their CEO $1.6 million and that the folks in charge of the state chapters are paid well into the six figures range?

What possible relevance does the salary of leadership positions in the BSA (Boy Scout Association?) have to this?

About 6 or 7 years ago I used a 5 ton dump that I had to haul junk from an area called dead mans hollow in Lincoln Boro, Pa. south of Pittsburgh. Anyhow my time & truck were free others donated shrubs & flowers the local dump turned their heads & didn`t see us come & go, the scouts did a great job the rails to trails people were happy. A couple months afterwards Myself & most everyone else involved had to go to the districk justices office. The street crew guys tried getting paid for what they said should have been their job. The st. dept. boss showed up with a number of local residents & a handful of work orders for when these guys were paid to do the job & didn`t or showed up & did very little. The judge just asked the union rep. if he really wanted to go thru with the hearing & waste the courts time. The union guy just zipped up his brief, said he was sorry & left. End of story. At least there was one D.J. that didn`t allow that kind of crap to go on.
