HELP!!! Hyfire II Sounds like it going to blow up!

Our new Hyfire II is in the basement. It's been running for several weeks and working well. BUT - About 10 mins. ago I began to hear a really loud buzzing, vibrating noise. It's VERY loud, even upstairs in the house. Don't know what's wrong or what to do with it. At 10:15 a.m. I called Leisure Line and got answering machine. Left a message but until then... what do I do with this stove? Any clues?

Do you have a Coaltrol? If so, you may have to go into TEST mode, and let it cycle thru the motors, blowers, etc...then you will know what is vibrating.

Might be a just blower vibrating, see if you can pinpoint the noise, to the stoker, combustion blower, convection blower, etc....that will determine your next course of action of figuring out what to do.

or if it's cycling, on/off, might be the Stoker Plate has some Fines or coal stuck under the plate.

Yes, we do have a Coaltrol. The noise definitely sounds as if its coming out the top and it has gotten louder. We don't have it tied into our ductwork yet so we just have heat coming out the top. It doesn't seem as if there's any noise from anywhere else, just from the top. Honestly, I don't know much about the stove, we just picked it up --I think it was in August. This is our first season with it and hubby is at work now. I've called him but since he works in the NYC subway system, I can only leave a message on his cell which he won't get until he comes up above ground again!

We did hear an odd noise last night too, a sort of bang/clang/rattle and then nothing. Loud enough to make the dogs bark. Everything was fine though after the noise. But I wondered if it was from the stove because it sounded like it came up from our bedroom heating vent, and the stove is located under that area.

I did put the phone by the stove when I left the message at the Leisure Line number so that whoever picks up the message will hear the noise.

Actually, before this we had been running the right side (facing the stove) then we had to shut the stove down for a week while we were away. He cleaned everything and restarted the Stove on Monday, but this time lit the left side instead.

Shouldnt' matter which side is burning. I only 1 side burning too.

There's really nothing on the top of the stove except the top cover plate, maybe it's loose and vibrating?

Maybe just bump it a bit or grab it (if not too hot) and see if it stops.

May not be anything to worry about, if it's burning fine and the blowers are running, something just could be loose....

DON'T PANIC...just try and figure out what it is by process of elimination....

Can you post a pic? Then we can tell you what to look for.

Hi Dave! Just spoke with Dave at Leisure Line. I've got one blower unplugged and the noise has stopped. It was the blower on the left side. Maybe a piece of coal stuck or ???? Stove is still running and hubby will check it out when he gets home (he finally came above ground and got my message). But for now, I've still got heat and peace and quiet! Thanks for your quick responses!

Yes, the NEW guys at LL are good! but I knew it had to be somethign simple. Was it the Convection Blower that blows the hot air out the top? Yes, something may be loose or a piece of coal stuck in it.

Glad to hear you figured it out.

Even on the handfired Harman Mark I, II or III, if the blower on the back of the stove is set in there a certain way, it will vibrate & make all kinds of racket.

On these stoves, the blower just slides into a channel on the back of the stove at the bottom, & just blows air through channels to the top to get every ounce of heat into your house, rather than up the chimney. I stick a cotter pin in the top channel to lock the motor in place & cut down on the rattle.

Hi Dave. It was the blower on the back, outer left-hand side (if facing the stove). There's a matching one on the back, outer right-hand side. Are those the convection blowers?

It probably is a little piece of coal or something like that causing the noise since we have been running both blowers and this just started after hubby cleaned and restarted the stove. When he checks it out, I'll post back with what he finds (or doesn't find!)

Yes, those on the bottom of the stove back are the CONVECTION blowers that moves the hot air around, the smaller ones mounted on the back plate under the stokers are COMBUSTION blowers.

Yes, maybe it came loose from the back of the stove, the bolts just might need tightened to the stove, metal again metal can vibrate. When he removes it, check the squirrel cage blower wheel and make sure it's not come loose.

The top ducts are not hooked up and are open to the room? Something fell down in there (Coal? Tool?) that eventually vibrated its way down to the fan, and POW! It got launched by the squirrel cage, and is now rattleing around in it. Maybe something off the ceiling?

Hi guys! Sorry I didn't post back last night, I just had surgery on Tues. so I feel asleep.

Anyway, my husband came home and what did he find? Nothing, nada, zip!

First, he plugged the blower back in and there was no noise at all. He then unplugged it and checked to make sure there was nothing in there that would've caused that racket. Then he was fooling around with the "lid" of the stove and at one point it started to vibrate some, and it sounded like the noise the stove had been making, only not nearly as loud. At this point, it seems that for some reason the top lid was just vibrating badly and making a HUGE racket. Both blowers have been running since and the stove has been quiet, no noise or vibration, just the normal sound of operation. Hope it stays that way!

After several days of nice and quiet operation, this morning the lid on the stove started to vibrate like crazy again, making a huge racket. All of a sudden it just starts vibrating. We only have one blower running and the stove was really cranking each time this has happened, but it has ONLY happened with the left convection blower running. When we had only the right blower running, this never happened.

What can we do to prevent this? It's really annoying and very noisy and we don't know why it's fine for days and then the lid will just start vibrating!
