FAX From Desktop

FAX From Desktop

PostBy: RMA On: Fri Nov 20, 2009 12:48 pm

I have computers with Vista Home Premium, Basic an XP. & each w/Office Basic 2003
I have a Verizon FIOS connection, and a networked Brother fax/printer/scanner #7820N

I want to send Pages from MS WORD to from five to twenty different FAX numbers directly from my WORD program.
Is there a way of doing this simply? Efficiently?

Bob (low tech)

It's been a long time since I have done so, but I'm pretty sure that Word will do it as a mail merge. Rather than print letters to a printer, it will do so to a networked fax machine.

Wish I could offer step-by-step instructions, but it's been a while. There are some rather obtuse instructions in Word's help file.

In the "old days" we would use a program like WinFax and use the PC's modem. I setup a deli years ago to do this with their daily lunch specials - they just added their customer's fax # to WinFax and they could select all the numbers at once.

Now, most all-in-one printers include some type of fax from pc interface.

Might look into online fax services like efax.com (I'm not endorsing it)

I just checked my iinstalled printers on Vista, and sure enuf, one of them is a FAX that came with the O/S. Just print the document to that FAX printer, and a Dialog box should pop-up requesting a FAX modem or FAX server on the network.
Personally, we always use a Physical Printer with FAX capabilities, hooked up to our phone line to scan and send out faxes.

Chris,
I have been FAX-ing directly with the fax machine, too. I am looking for ways to cut down on time required.
What version of VISTA are you using?

I have discovered that I have the ability to fax via WORD program through my networked printer/fax..but I don't see a similar capability via the operating system.
It seems that WORD allows me to enter fax nos. in a dialog-box type window, but it is limited to five nos. at a time.

I have Vista Ultimate 32 SP2. There is a printer in the Printer Folder, called FAX. I bet your Word document is trying to use it. Simply printing the document to the FAX printer, should allow you to use your Network-attached Fax. Keep in mind, I never tried this, but it looks like everything is there....
