It was Rensselaer county ..... I don't expect anything that easy to come from a city ..... just looking through their website & I don't see anything - I'm sure they don't make things like that obvious so they can maximize their revenue ....

I looked too and couldn't find anything on the Rennselaer site. Madison and Otsego counties offer this and the information is on their DA's websites. Guess they want people to come back to get another shot at giving them a ticket.

Maine is about to pass a "distracted driving" law. It won't matter what distracted you, it's going to cost if you're caught.

Hands free phones....silliness! The accident rate is IDENTICAL to hands on phones. Why some states have passed "hands free is OK" laws is beyond me. The human brain is an odd thing. Talking to a passenger doesn't seem to bother us, but talking on a phone does. The accident rates don't lie! Bottom line...pull over & talk or shut your phone off while driving.

a trick i learned years back.....may or may not work for you

plead guilty, send in the fine, say the fine is 93 dollars.......send them a check for 96 dollars........when they send you a refund check for that 3 dollars, dont cash it.......they never stated the points on a speeding ticket that i got about 12 yrs ago

I drive a '93 myself. At least in SEPA the cars last a lot longer. Here they die of car cancer.

Fine for no seat belt is $50.00

http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/DMVfaqs.htm
This link is broken, either the page no longer exists or there is some other issue like a typo.

HOWEVER-

There is a NYS court surchage imposed of usually $85.00 on top of the fine- ( :!: ) for the first ticket, $55 each for the next.

Plan on paying $135.00.

I borrowed my brothers trailer last year. He said it was all set to go. It wasn't and had a couple of burn't out bulbs and wasn't registered as I found out.
2 - Tickets - $110. 2 - Surcharges $140.00 for a total of $250.00. Makes you just fume. :mad3: :mad2:

Our Marquis gets parked winters too - that's why it stays easy to work on & great to look at. ;)

So .... what would happen if I blow this thing off & don't mail it in? My guess is they make me pay more, and/or make me drive all the way out there for a court date then bag me twice! In the past (20 yrs ago) when I got tickets out of state, the points didn't make it to my insurance -- I hope that is still the case....

I don't think Mass. has reciprocity with NY. If you get pulled over in NYS again, you'd have explaining to do. Since I'm guessing you don't have wings, it's kind of hard to go west of MASS without driving in NYS, no? Think about it, no trips to NEPA and for what? $120?

And yeah, my plate # & license # are on the paperwork he gave me ... :(

Anybody know how much the fine is?

The EZ Pass camera only comes on if you go thru the lane and either your EZ Pass Account is empty or you do not have an EZ Pass tag. Furthermore is is set up to only capture the rear of the car so that the license plate can be read.

I used to install these things.

Fight it, say you took it off to pay toll. I never roll for the government, any of them. You want a piece of me? Well, I make them work for it. More often than not, the cop will not show, and you are free.
As far as the beater thing, if it is ugly, it will be pulled over more. If it is clean, they leave you alone. Thing about living
in a metro area is the law is busy, they do not have time for a lot of the little stuff. Out in the sticks, they have the time
so odds of getting pinched are better.
The most screwed up is Maine. They have a seat belt law, but no helmet law for motorcycles? Wow! Cell phones are a
huge distraction, that any state has NOT banned them from the car is amazing to me. How many hits before something is
done? You would think MA would be all over it, but it has not passed.

The bastards got me the exact same way at the Lackawanna tolls on the west side of Buffalo on I 90. I see in my records I paid them $100 on 04/30/2004. That was five years ago so taking inflation into account I guess your fine will be about $1,000 but look at it this way, New Yorkers are nice people and they need your money.
