NY got me! But I don't know for how much. No seatbelt! WTF!

Yep, I am a recent victim of extortion of the same type that MA so frequently employs: I was heading E on 90, & as I went through the EZ Pass lane, I noticed a statie standing there, sort of hiding behind the toll booth. I wasn't sure if he was trying to cross or not, so I slowed way down (bad idea) so he could get a clear look at my seatbelt dangling behind my left shoulder .... So I go through, then I hear WHOA! WHOA! & see him in my mirror motioning to pull over.

BAGGED! He gave me a piece of paper that I have to mark guilty or not guilty, sign, date & mail back (... and I thought MA was back-ass-wards!) So now I expect that the second I send this in, I will be receiving a nice fat ticket in the mail. It's not enough that I was paying friggin tolls all damn day, now this??? This will be the last time I do business in NY!!

Then to top the trip off, the douchebag at Wal-Mart charged me for 5 cases of Yuengling when I only had 4!!!!!!!

So now, how much is this ticket gonna cost? I have assumed the position (grabbing ankles) ...........

If he didn't have a camera, mark it not guilty.

that sounds like a load of bull crap. i agree with tsb, check not guilty. Hows he gonna prove it unless he had you on camera. But that would mean you would have to go to that countys court house i would imagine? not sure. it would be nice to know how much the seat belt fine is.

Do they have your license plate or drivers license number? If they do then you're done for.

I thought all those EZ Pass lanes have cameras to catch violators - - I figured that was why he was standing there - so he could have an open & shut case. I think if I try to fight it, they'll just pull the camera footage out. Plus, it'll be my word against a statie ...... I don't stand a chance. And yeah, my plate # & license # are on the paperwork he gave me ...

Its the points and surcharges that'll get ya. Hire a lawyer, it may pay for itsself in the long run. $500 for a traffic lawyer, or years of surcharges.... Hmmmmm....

Don't know how much the ticket is but if you try to fight I think you'll get hosed.
What's bad is it doesn't have anything to do with safety, it's about revenue. You think that guy was standing there to keep you safe?.... Probably only has to issue a few tickets to cover his wages for the day, then the rest is profit. They often have a quota of tickets to meet as well.

Oh believe me - the Common "wealth" of MA is well schooled in ways to generate revenue. I am very familiar!

No seat belt $105-125 depending on the surcharge.
Using cell phone $105-135 depending on the surcharge
No rear light on driver side $135-150 depending on the surcharge
doing 87mph on the NYS Thruway $ 500-600 depending on the lawyer fee

Guess I should be counting my blessings, as I averaged 80 mph the entire length of time I was on 90 in NY!

That would have REALLY sucked - $600 would have made the whole purpose of the trip be for naught!

Is the buckle part of your belt up by your shoulder when it's not attached?

If not you might have a chance at fighting it, got off one with a picture proving the cop couldn't have seen the "shiny metal part of the buckle" (after he testified UNDER OATH to seeing it) since doesn't rest up there when not attached. Isn't that called purjury?

Blame the insurance companies and their political lobbies since they are the real beneficiaries of these idiotic laws.

Oh Man! Yup, it sucks, but I think it's going to cost ya. A buddy of mine got caught here in Maine a couple months ago. It was $65.....no surcharge. He miiiiight have gotten a warning, but, he didn't know why he got stopped. Just this year are they allowed to pull you over for not wearing a seat belt.
