Where to buy coal in northern St.Lawrence County N.Y.

PostBy: coconut56 On: Fri Nov 27, 2009 10:23 am

Hello, Great forum here, I was wondering if anyone would have any info as to where I could buy coal in the Brasher Falls,N.Y. area ? I am only a few miles from Franklin county also. I would like to start heating with coal again , but cannot seem to find anyone who sells it here. I am originally from Southwestern Pa. and my father was a miner for 38 years in the Elizabeth , Pa. area , so I am not a total stranger to coal heat. I have used wood heat for many years living in this area , but I am getting tired of cutting & splitting  Someone said they heard of a guy in Bangor,N.Y. but I cannot seem to find any info on him. I would be very grateful for any help I could get. :)

Thanks , Kevin

Hi Kevin, are you looking for bagged or bulk coal? What size do you need? SummerHaven Pools/Stoves in Potsdam has bagged Reading Anthracite the last time I checked.

There is a man in North Bangor that sells bulk coal, his name is Dean Rockhill. I wrote down his number a few years ago, not sure if it is still current: 518-483-0867. There are some other suppliers out my way, let me know if you need more information.

Not very often I bump into someone from your area, the only reason we ever go out there is the venison jerkey from Tri-Town Packing.

Hi Robert,

Thanks for the quick response , I didn't really think I would even get one from the "real upstate N.Y." area  According to the literature Hitzer sent me the 30-95 burns nut or pea size coal , or "stove" coal if the hopper is removed. I guess removing the hopper would defeat my purpose though. I would like to still have heat when I get home from work at night. I have not purchased the stove yet , as I obviously wanted to research whether coal was available and cost effective. I also have oil fired hydronic baseboard , but it doesn't cycle too often when the woodstove is in operation. I will call the phone number you gave me. How much is the bagged coal ? Oh , I don't live too far from Mr.Liberty's operation , TriTown Packing.

Thanks again,Kevin
