Settings for M-F, and Weekends

Settings for M-F, and Weekends

PostBy: lundys On: Mon Nov 30, 2009 9:50 am

Just wondering if Coal-trol plans to release firmware that supports more than just "day/night" programming options. My wife and I work during the week, so I'd like to set it lower on Monday to Friday during the day, but set it to a different value on Saturday and Sunday during the day. Any plans to release a firmware update to support this feature? I believe standard programmable thermostats refer to this as "5/2 programmable".

Thanks!

I believe it does have weekend setting too, might depend on which one you have. Mine has Weekday/Weekend settings.

Do a search in this forum for SETBACK, pros and cons. I guess it depends on your house heating needs.
Temperature setbacks

I never had good luck with (and a lot of others haven't either) using the setback, it takes too long to get back up to temps....only change it a couple degrees if that....I just set it at a certain temp and leave it. maybe change it 1-2 degrees when home, but that's about it.

Thanks for the setback advice, that is very helpful to keep in mind.

I wonder why mine doesn't have weekend settings? Interesting. It was purchased new from a LL dealer in September. Anyone know when the weekend/weekday feature was implemented? Could I get the firmware updated somewhere?

Thanks!

Check the type of Thermostat? TS1, TS2, etc...I think the TS2 have more features. But check the www.coaltroldigital.com site for more info.
Depending on the type of thermostat and version, I think they can update it for a price. I had mine (TS2) updated a year or so ago to Version 3.XX

TS2 thermostats have only day and night setpoints shared across all days of the week. TS1 and TS2ES are our Energy Star versions which have 4 setpoints for weekdays and 4 for weekends.

If you'd like to upgrade your TS2 to a TS2ES you can call our shop at 315-299-3589 to arrange for upgrade service. If you have a V3 TS2, the cost is $25 plus shipping (and tax if you're in NY state). If you have a V2 TS2 then we'd be upgrading the feature set as well as the number of setpoints and so we'd charge a bit more (I'm not sure of pricing offhand, the guys at the shop will be able to total it up and let you know).

Mine was updated, and now it works just like common thermostats for non solid fuel systems. It is really nice to be in control of our heat even if it cheaper. Just remember cheap goes through to the bone. That is not bad thing
