Federal Reserve Act December 23, 1913

DING DING DING

Now we have the real winner.

If it weren't for the Morgans, Rockefellers, Warburgs, Pincuses, Rothschilds, and .......DEMOCRATS we could have a free economy.

The Federal Reserve Act passed Congress in late 1913[21][22] on a mostly partisan basis, with most all Democrats in support and most Republicans against it.[23] The plan that was adopted as the Federal Reserve Act had similarities to the Aldrich plan, but the balance of public and private control was modified.[1][23

Er, not exactly. TR was the original "trust-buster." And Wm. H. Taft did even more. Both Republicans.

The Fed Reserve Act was a later piece of the reform movement a century ago.

Why Republicans? Because even they realized that the wealth gap created by an unbridled free market not only was unconscionable but eventually would result in bloodshed. Besides, in a representative gov't, there's the small matter of getting enough votes to retain your office.

That's why the GOP perennially has you tools thinking they're your "small gov't" friend, when they're clearly not. They use your credit card to line the pockets of their buddies at Halliburton and Blackwater and big oil, they run up giant deficits in the process, oh, and meanwhile let their buds on Wall St gamble with your savings, and then they leave us all holding the bag as the economy goes in the sh!tter. Oh, wait. No, they demand more of your money to bail out Wall St when the house of cards collapses.

Yet you guys still believe their line that gov't is out to get you. So you persist in voting for these crooks.

What country that's kicking our a$$ is "less socialist" than we are?

For example, do any of the countries kicking our a$$ not have universal healthcare?

See, the GOP has us thinking about it "a$$-backwards." :P

You think that hasn't already happened? Lessee, they hold our debt paper, they're making all of our toys and appliances, not to mention our toothpaste, computers and light switches. Hell, what aren't they making? If you say cars, it's not much of a secret that they have big plans for moving on the car market.

The only thing we have left is our military and weapons. And that's a piss-poor position to be in. Ask Adolf.

Ummm.......congress makes the laws, John. Democrats voted in the FRA, not Republicans. Nice try, though.

The difference between Republicans and Democrats on economics is this:

Republicans are for regulating the ruthless extremes of pure competition and monopoly while Democrats desire a re-distribution of wealth. Regulation versus wealth management.

There is no socialist or communist country today that is successful without the United States of America.

Au contrere, again, my man. Our trust-busting and labor reforms are the only things that kept Marx's predictions from coming true here. They defused the economic bomb.

Credit the GOP a century ago for seeing something you still can't perceive.

It's not quite that simple.

While democrats certainly voted for the FRA, republicans did not fight it very hard.

The vote in the house was:
298 yeas
60 nays
76 not voting.

The Senate
43 yeas
25 nays
27 not voting

In both houses there was more abstention than opposition.

But the larger issue, both with this argument, and many historical arguments of a partisan nature is that the core of the types of Democrats who voted for this legislation were southern populists. Most of those southern populists switched parties to the GOP in the 1950s and 60s.

It's never that simple! The Republicans wanted a central bank, they just didn't want what they got. That's why they voted NV!

As far as populism goes, its been a common, recurring and sometimes significant thread throughout our two party system. It's that fractious "third party" that never really comes to be.
