Gambling in Pa

I still say they should have just legalized the poker machines in the neighborhood bars & taken their cut. A lot cheaper & they are still there. But then tollgate Ed wouldn`t have gotten as much graft & they would have stepped on some toes of some not so nice people but a lot more cost effective. The gov. jobs created wouldn`t be so glamerous but hey free beer when they went in to check on things. And just think all the school districts would have been right there( oh yea! I almost forgot that tax relief never really happened).

There's been some talk of legalizing them in bars too but of course the Casinos don't want to hear that.

School districts... TAX relief...
To ensure that the state’s spending does not outgrow its projected revenues beyond this year, Rendell and House Democrats are holding up about $675 million in discretionary money for Penn State, Temple and Pitt until a table games bill passes.

The holdup in subsidies has prompted the three universities to threaten second-semester tuition increases for more than 150,000 students, while Republicans insist that the state’s existing revenues can support the extra spending.

But Rendell, a Democrat, said Wednesday that, without more gambling revenue, the state cannot afford all universities’ money this year because of lagging tax collections.

If I remember correctly when the gambling was brought up for a vote it was for local school property tax relief the schools of higher learning recieved tax aid from other state sources & were not meant to be included in the gambling earnings.
