I have read this a few times even before I bought the Mark III. It says with my new airtight stove I really don't need a baro. same thing my dealer said. But many here have said it cut down on their coal use which does interest me. Quite a debate.

This house is so old and drafty I hadn't considered a CO detector. I will get one now. Doesn't cost much. can't hurt. Death is so uncool.

I have one downstairs by the stove, and one upstairs by the bedrooms. Can't be to safe!

this is my 5th winter with the MKIII,
and I have not had my detector go off yet.

as far as windows goes, I added more gasket
around my window, left a few small areas without it,
to try to draw all the air from the bottom of the stove
up thru the bed. the stove seems to be fine this way,
and we heat 1800 sq feet of a ranch home with the stove
in the basement. floors are warm!

baro is installed, but I can honestly say I have never
seen it open except for very windy days. we rarely
have any other appliances running, except for the clothes
dryer upstairs. there is a bathroom fan that runs occasionally
also.

it does sound like a draft problem, double check the top of
that inner baffle for obstruction there, it can be hard to reach
but I do mine in summer with a shopvac, from the back while
my stove pipe is off.

good luck, and stay warm! about 8 here now, probably
be near zero tonight.
