You can use the SEARCH at the top, should give you a bunch of answers to your questions.

Here's the spring maintenance for most stoves. You can adjust cleaning for your burning habits. Here a couple threads to get your started.

Is it really nescassry to shutdown in mid season to clean stove .. or can you just keep it going for the whole season?? :? my first year too... I do every 2 days vaccum the area where the ash pan sits and even stick the hose it the outlets to suck out any fly ash.. ...I made a piece of steel I put over the opening.. allow the glass to cool for a few mintues and take a wet sponge (just water) and paper towel to clean the glass :D

No problem. A lot of info to digest....but not that complicated.

Cleaning - It all depends on your stove, ash, etc...some can go the whole season without much cleaning, but others may have to clean it every couple months or mid way thru the season. It should be at least checked.

Depending on what you are cleaning, you may not have to shut it down, I usually just run the shop vac in/around the ash pan, and as far up the pipe I can reach with the extensions, blow out the blowers with compressed air (gently), etc... without shutting down. The door glass can be cleaned with a piece of metal over the opening (if you stove came with one) to let it cool down.

Once you get burning for a while, you will get used to when you will have to do a shut down and clean up. With experience, you will eventually get to the point where you do not have to shut down. As many people believe in one match/one fire for the entire season.
