For the past few years I've successfully burned coal with nice blue flames, but for some reason I'm not getting them like I used to. The only differance this year is I'm using stove sized coal as oppose to pea or nut. I'm getting a good red glowing burn with a fine gray ash. I believe the coal is Blacshack. with only 2 degees out last night I still kept the entire house at 73 degrees so I'm really not concerned about the heat output. I just miss the blue flames. Typically I get mostly yellow and white flames. Could it have something to do with amount of air or combustion rate?

My theory: Bigger coal makes bigger dancing ladies, BUT, you need a bigger stage for them to dance! Your stage is too small for them to get good footing.
