Find me pics of Ike, or Dubya, or Ronnie Ray-guns covering up for the Anthem in a suit. And find them before they were Presidents.

Are you retarded?

I do it now just out of habit. I wasn't in grade school in 2009.

Can't you read?

I've been in a lot of public places where the Anthem has been sung and I haven't seen hatless people in civilian clothes with hands over hearts. Until after Fake News made it an issue in the summer of 2008.

And, quite frankly, I seriously doubt anybody who says they regularly sang the Anthem in grade school.

Pledge yes, Anthem no.

So find me Republicans who were doing it before they became President. Or pack this up.

I said they played a record over the PA. Nobody sang. But we did stand quietly with our hand over our heart for the Pledge and the anthem.

I won't argue that respect is something that has long been forgotten in this country, but nearly 35 years ago, at least in my little corner of the world, it was taught.

Obama probably wasn't taught that in the madrassa. They didn't play the anthem in my schools in the morning, just the pledge. But at ball games it was certainly the custom. I've seen fights break out at O's games due to men not removing their hats for the anthem. I don't care if Obama put''s his hand over his heart for the anthem. It's plain he doesn't like much about America so it's no surprise to me he disrespects such customs.

And calling us wingnuts is a personal attack. Richard, Richard!! Waa waa waa.

No surprise, but you still don't get it. I never said hats shouldn't come off.

Try, please, to keep up.

P.S. - Press the button anytime you want. I know the difference between a debate and a personal attack.

"Since that time, all presidents have returned the salutes of military personnel, but saluting the flag has remained a mixed bag, with most Presidents holding their hand over their heart. "

Because I've been in some pretty big ballparks and, while everybody knows hats are to come off, I never saw hatless people with hands on hearts for the Anthem before the summer of 2008.

Didn't you ever watch an old movie? Your hat goes over your heart for the national anthem.

Here's a photo that shows the ball players with hats over heart. Hard to see but they are all facing the flag for the national anthem.

Christ, Mike, I thought you'd found something useful, not a b/w shot of micro-ballplayers! Even with a magnifying glass, though, doesn't prove anything; those ballplayers are (a) in uniform and (b) wearing hats.

What I was and am referring to is the custom when people are hatless and not in any uniform. I've said that all along and nobody's demonstrated the custom yet.

Now wait a sec..."not in any uniform"?!?!. You are the one being a bit literal now aren't you? The cliche, "in uniform" refers to people in uniformed public service like, military service people, police, and firefighters. I object, counselor!

The difference is in degrees. The left chooses to interpret the Constitution quite liberally while the right chooses to interpret it conservatively and literally in the context of the Framer's desires. The left is wrong and seeks to subvert the document through equivocation.

Madison saw it coming on the "general welfare" clause.

This link is broken, either the page no longer exists or there is some other issue like a typo.

Hardly. You think Bush v. Gore and Citizens United are "conservative" or "literal" interpretations of the Constitution?

You really really want to open up that debate again? The one where in the first round, Bush v Palm Beach SCOTUS was unanimous in their remand because the FSC was blatantly wrong, and in which they determined that the Feds had plenary power in a national election? That one?

Or did you mean the second round, Bush v Gore where they held in the 6-3 per curiam decision that Gore's desire to recount only the counties that were advantageous to him was a violation of the 14th amendment?

Uncle Ronnie was even older than me, he learned the hand over heart salute in grade school before they did away with it because someone felt offended. Besides that he was in a couple of army flicks.

Regan was the essence of patriotic. I'll guarantee you he held his hand over his heart anytime he was present when it was played. My father taught me the same from the time I was little. To deny that has always been the custom is just another liberal lie.
