Had a good 1st full day. The second 12 hrs seemed to get it where I needed it, dial set at 9, ash door vents closed, stove temp 425, stack 150, fan on low, upstairs temp 71, outside temp 9, wind most of the day seems to have died down a bit now, burned approx 25lbs. Going to try your settings to see if I can get it any better. Will let you know. :) :)

If the ash pan door vents are open a little, the air supply is not stopped, then started, then stopped and started, etc.. Instead, a little air keeps the fire alive, and standing by. When the back air draft opens, the fire responds quicker, which in turn, closes the back draft quicker. I found useing the two drafts together, the efficiency can be fine tuned. Why else do you think HITZER engineered two air supplies into thier stoves? Others on this board use only the back draft. I guess, what ever works for you.

Last night stove ran 475 stack 150 used approx 20 lbs upstairs stayed 71*. Today temps outside were around 28, decided to turn it down dial on 8 and closed the ash door vent. Stove temp 325 stack 100 and have used nil for coal, maybe 5lbs. Upstairs temp 71 all day. Great info from Oliver Powers, thanks alot.

I burned wood for 50 yrs. picked up a used 50-93/rebuilt it.We live in a 200 yr old farm house on the top of a hill in central ny.I wish I could do a basement riggin---post & beam ya know. Not goot for venting--anyway-it sits in the stove/entrance room--without the blower on it keeps the stove room about 80 & the rest of the house about 70--I'm heating about 30,000 sq.ft.I looked at alot of stoves--new,used,what-ever---this 50-93 does the job---are you doing duct work or just up through registers??Anyway,I love this stove--the people that make them are out in Indiana--any questions I had I called direct & talked to Dean (owner) he'll treat you like family

the 50-93 and 30-95 are for use with nut or pea sized coal. If I read your post correctly, you are using rice? Your air flow is most likely reduced because of the rice. Pea reduced the air flow for me when I switched from nut. It also slowed the stove from heating up. Get some nut and try it again. I think you'll be pleased.

The only duct work is two cold air returns from rooms upstairs to circulate the heat.
