Our dealer has these and like the looks of them. Anyone use any of the models using the Air Circulator? Just wondering how well the circulator tubes work and also the durability of units.

Thanks

Hi Rex,
I have a DS Circulator (96000 BTU). Purchased in Sept 09, so this is my first year. The unit is built like a tank and does a good job of heating. I'm heating a 32' X 64' pole building. This building is insulated well, but has 13 (3' X 5' windows) 1 set of terrace doors, 1 (3') pedestrian door, 2 garage doors (16' X 8' and 9' X 8') and 2 (4' skylights). I do have a air handler to move the heated air around the building so there is usually a 4 degree difference between different areas of the building.
The DS circulator works great. I've been keeping a log of the temps inside and outside and the amount of coal used. Today is a very cold day and extremely windy. My building is not sheltered so it takes the brunt of the wind from the Northwest. The temp outside is 28 F and the inside temp is 68 F. I have the therostat on the rear of the DS set at midrange (3.0). It keeps my pole building nice and cozy. I used to keep the building at 60 F when I was heating with a heatpump. I use approximately (1) 20 lb bucket of coal daily. I shake the ashes in the morning and in the evening and fill the hopper with coal. I can't address reliability since I've only had the unit 4 months. So far its been great!! :D I would recommend using a humidifier - stand alone, or built into your ductwork, to supply humidity. You can reduce your inside temp 3-4 degrees while keeping your inside humidity at 35-40% and you won't be able to tell the difference. Hope this helps. :D

I personally have a D.S. Machine boiler and a friend has a D.S. Machine Basement #4. They are terrific units. I have been burning coal for 25 plus years and built a coal fired boiler about 20 years ago for a garage I had. My buddy loves the Basement #4 because we ran 4 ducts to
his upstairs with another open in his basement family room.

I can keep my house at 72 deg. unless temp falls below 15 degrees, then oil boiler backup kicks in occasionally, and my buddy can "roast" himself out in any weather we've experienced here in central Pa., the last 3 years.

Never having owned or knowing anyone with a circulator model I can't comment intelligently on them, other than I'm sure they are a quality unit like the ones I have hands on experience with. I've seen and fondled the circulator model, just don't have experience with them.

I have the circulator. Got it last winter and love it. The tubes work great, no need for blowers. Where are you thinking of getting the ds? The guys I bought mine from helped me set it up and put in the vents. Theres no better stove for the money.

I have a DS circulator Mini 55,000 BTU .Heating 100% of my just under 1000 sq ft home , keeps my house 73 deg at idle at 20-35 deg outside temps , put it up #2 on the thermostat on colder days under 20 deg to hold my 73 deg , I use no more then 25 lbs of pea coal per day , seems to be very well built nice shaker system big ashpan. a friend of mine was so impressed with my mini DS circulator ,he just bought one last week and called me today to let me know that he lost electric power yesterday and he was very happy because his house was warm and he ended up cooking dinner on his new stove last nite

The D.S.Machine factory is in Gordonville, not far from you. They do have a phone. Might be in your book. I don't know if they will sell to you directly or if you will have to go through a dealer. Call and ask.

Picked my Basement #4 at the factory...
But I do not have any dealer near me that carries the line...
Solid stove...
Did some minor tweaks to get the stove acting the way I wanted...
Puts out major heat with no fans...
Stove body 450*, after the baro 125*...
