Wow thank you for all the pics of your stove and ash pan, those are exactly what I was looking for pic wise. What a great ash pan setup. Looks like it would indeed be very clean to empty.
Thanks,
Glenn

Nice Pictures. Now we know what the KODIAK is like. Thanks, Oliver EDIT: Pictures! What a great idea! After seeing the KODIAK pictures, I went down to the cellar and snapped the HITZER pictures. Now members can look at both. The HITZER ash pan is 23-3/8" x 14". The sides are 2 inches high. WOW! My 50-93 is looking old. I guess, It's been heating my place for 9 or 10 years now. The KEYSTOKER boiler will be taking over before to long. The 50-93 will be on stand by in case of power outage. I'd never be without a natural draft stove.

HITZER; Empty ash pan at 12 hour tending time. At full tilt, should you need to go out to 18 hours before tending, the ash pan will handle it, but it will be full. The KODIAK also looks like a nice stove. I wouldn't hesitate to buy either one. I simply can not tell you anything about it. You're right; A comparison by experienced users. I forgot to take a picture of the stack temp. Come morning, it's about 150*.RMA wrote:So, if you've got your stove going *Full Tilt*...
How long does it take to fill the respective pans?
Or how long before you must empty?
Hitzer? Alaska?
Bob
ps Good job, nice to get a comparison, by experienced users!

Speaking of pictures.........How about a picture of the new removeable hopper that the 50-93 now has. Also, notice my ash pan doesn't have that round fold up handle on it anymore. You're better off without it. I cut mine off both my HITZER ash pans. No more ash hang-ups. The ashes slide out as if the pan was greased. Another EDIT: Here's something I highly recommend for use with the HITZER stoves.....An "Ash Tote". I made mine, but HITZER sells them. I empty my ash tote about once a week. Cuts my tending time down to like 1-1/2 - 3 minutes. I timed it once. Time should be on this site.mvman wrote:all of the feedback and comparisons are great. I just bought the 50-93, should have it running next week. hopefully I can find a kodiak for the upstairs sometime this winter.

We have been very happy with our Hitzer 50-93 for the past 3 seasons. Heating just under 3,000 sqft house. Empty once every 12 hours without any issues. We purchased the unit used and must say the Hitzer family was outstanding when it came to replacement items for the stove. They had all parts on hand when I requested them. The stove was built in 1993 and its still solid like a tank.
I would like to hear from those with the newer 50-93's. (not to get off original topic)
Thanks

top
so a fireplace opening thats 29" or more can fit it. The optional blower fan would make a stealthier stove washer
this is a rear vent stove and the height of the top of the flue pipe off the floor is 28 1/2"so a fireplace opening thats 29" or more can fit it. The optional blower fan would make a stealthier stove washer

My neighbor has a Kodiak. Nice stove. He burns wood in it most of the time. It works very well for him.

I like the bigger hopper openning of the KODIAK, over the smaller 50-93 hopper openning. The HITZER 30-95 has the big hopper openning. I like being able to better see the coal flowing.....and not have to be more carefull of aiming to hit the hopper openning of the 50-93. Not that it's a big deal. I simply like the bigger openning.Poconoeagle wrote:more pics of kodiak

Mvman,
Do you have your NEW Hitzer up and running yet? What do you think of her?
Thanks,
Glenn
