Napolitano should go!

PostBy: coalkirk On: Fri Jan 01, 2010 11:23 am

For the attempted Christmas bombing of the flight to Detroit to have occurred 9 years after 9/11 is inexcusable. How many red flags need to be thrown for the TSA or Homeland Security to have prevented this? Thankfully, the underwear bomb didn't explode or several hundred innocent people on the plane and who knows how many on the ground would have been slaughtered. This adminstration and Napolitano in particular don't take terrorism seriously enough. She can't even bring herself to call it terrorism. It's a "man made disaster." She has a pre 9/11 attitude that is going to cause us to be caught flat footed. She's not qualified for the job, many said so upfront but in the era of Obama, that didn't matter. The "system worked?" Give me a break. She is incompetent and more interested in political correctness than in protecting the country.
She is however very interested in protecting the country from anyone protesting the current adminstration.

Should Tom Ridge have been fired after the Richard Reid bombing?

In defense of Ridge the Reid attempt took place at a very early stage and no one had attempted anything like it before. Sometimes you have to get burned to see the light.

This situation was different in that there was clear intelligence a Nigerian was being prepped for some kind of mission. This sort of thing had also been tried before in the assassination attempt of a Saudi minister.

In defense of Napolitano these faults are probably due to the same inter agency turf wars we have seen in the past. Some of these career bureaucrats need to have their cans busted for not being with the program. However, I do agree with most of the comments about her. PC needs to be purged from our security agencies. Profiling is a valid method for determining the most likely individuals to be threats. We need to respect the rights of honest people no matter where they hail from or what their backgrounds are but to refuse to use profiling is to throw out the baby with the bathwater. My 2 cents, soon to be worth 1.

Why not fire the TSA head also? Gale Rossides, Acting Administrator, is a Bush holdover. Why is there no appointed leader? Because one Senator, Jim Demint (R-S.C) is holding up the conformation of Obama's appointee, Erroll Southers. Another example of partisan politics in the Senate. Demint objects to the collective bargaining rights for TSA employees and is using power to prevent the nomination hearing from happening. Would a new leader have prevented the incident, most likely not, but clearly new leadership at TSA is needed. As the national health bill illustrates, partisan politics on both sides, has effectively brought moving forward to a standstill. Much to the detriment of this country.

Incase you've all been distracted due to the holidays, this guy did everything but take out an ad in the NYT to announce what he was going to do. First his father went to the American embassy in Nigeria and expressed serious concern that his son had become a radicalized muslim and was communicating with al quieda. Huge red flag that in a post 9/11 world should have skyrocketed him onto the no fly list. Next he bought his ONE WAY ticket LAST MINUTE minute with CASH. Three more huge red flags, any one of which should have raised an alarm. He had NO PASSPORT! Hello?
No comparison to Richard Reid which as someone correctly pointed out was just after 9/11 when we were just learning how to protect ourselves from these types of attacks.
I love it when faced with a glaring failure libs love to bring up some perceived Bush failure. OK, Bush didn't handle everything perfectly. How does that mitigate this horrendous series of failures of our secuirty in 12/09?

TSA head Yanche? If this was such an important position, why did it take Obama until September to even nominate someone? What's holding up his confirmation? Republicans and others with common sense don't want the TSA to be unionized. Why. First of all the TSA needs to be able to respond quickly to changes in terroists methods. With union rules on what their members can and can't do, will and won't due, they would be hobbled. Also unions in this country are nothing more than an arm of the democrat party. Why would rebublicans be expected to embrace policitizing the TSA? All Mr. Southers has to do is answer the question, "does he support unionizing the TSA?" So far he has refused.

And the health bill? Not held up by republicans. They weren't even included in the process. It's been the split within the dem party that has held up that nightmare. Blue dogs who know they aren't going to be re-elected in 2010 for their support of it. Obama, Pelosi and Reid are so hell bent on bringing socialized medicine to this country that they are willing to sacifice dems in congress in 2010 to do it.

I believe it was mostly the CIA that dropped the ball on this one. Besides that contrary to what it sounds likeon here most if not all of the tsa is still there from the Bush era, whenever a new Pres. is elected only a very few are didplaced & replaced.

I just find these sudden cries for accountability hollow.

The Anthrax attacks? Remember them?

How did it take 4 years to get rid of the clearly incompetent Donald Rumsfeld after the Iraq invasion?

The larger issue here is how do we provide security for flights into the US when we are not responsible for screening in foreign airports.

As for the CIA/FBI problems. Those go back to the creation of the CIA. J. Edgar Hoover was vehemently against the creation of the CIA after WW2. He went out of his way to make sure the culture of the FBI was adversarial as far as the CIA was concerned.

It will never be possible to totally stop terrorist attacks or attempts IMO. Unless you would totally withdraw from the rest of the world & be able to protect our borders & airspace 100%. What they have to do is to try to stay ahead of anything they may come up with & that is probably impossible. I think there will be more attempts & the odds are that some will succeed.

10 million passengers a year. State owned airline. They won't go broke if the planes are late.

The US has 700 million passengers a year and our airlines privately owned and compete against one another.

And if any of the U.S. airlines can sell all the seats you can bet there won`t be an air marshall aboard. Its all about the money & they are willing to gamble not that an air marshall or two is a sure bet.
