Cheney tore apart the fabric of this country far more than the right even dreams Obama might.
Cheney promoted a phony story to start a war we had no business starting. That's Crime #1. That war not only squandered over 4000 military lives, cost nearly a trillion dollars and destroyed our country's cred all over the world but made us exactly the oppressors which OBL wanted us to be, which helps explode Al Qaeda, as we're now seeing and as Ron Paul observes. Yet, when people tried to expose how phony the pretext for the Iraq invasion was, Cheney outed a CIA agent in retaliation. Crime #2. (Later, when Scooter Libby took the 4-felony fall for that, Cheney expected a pardon for loyal Scooter; when he didn't get it from Dubya, he became even more bitter and vengeful.) Let's be clear: these things aren't patriotic, they're federal crimes.
So he got the war going, lined the pockets of all his homies at Halliburton, proudly established Gitmo and Abu Ghraib, promoted torture under the name of "enhanced interrogation" and whipped up the USA Patriot Act, under which wonderful things like "sneak and peek" warrantless searches and eavesdropping still occur -- right here, against the citizens the Constitution supposedly is there to protect. Apart from little niceties like the Geneva Convention (which you could ask John McCain about), do you think having the NSA secretly in your telephone and computer, without probable cause or due process, isn't real destruction of the Constitution?
What I cannot fathom is how some of you can screech so loudly about the 2nd Amendment while being so completely blind to the 4th.
But, true to his draft-dodging, chickenhawk soul, as all the world-altering designs of his neocon posse have crumbled around him, Cheney has been doing what he does best: pushing back. He's unrepentant about torture, about Gitmo, about the Iraq war, about pardoning Scooter ... he even has the sheer audacity to suggest that the jock-bomber shouldn't be tried in federal court, when his own Administration did exactly that with shoe-bomber Richard Reid.
Cheney's become, pretty literally, the old aunt that Ross Perot kept in the basement. And he deserves about as much attention.
