Never mind about the auto ignition how about a computer interface. Self diagnosis, warning of fire out/over temp/hopper low/ash full condition etc. Is it not time for something like that - simple sensors. I think it is time. This board would be a great place to design it and easier than auto ign.

Well ugly, you seem to get it. In addition, warning of issues that you want to have dealt with NOW. As I lay in bed at night I see weather information on my little Texas unit. The temperature, wind speed etc. are always displayed. Honestly, I can always get up and go outside and estimate the conditions without any aids and no matter what the texas unit tells me it is unlikely I will get up and do anything about it but I like information. Remember, in 1975 a famous scientist stated - computers, what would the average man want or need a computer for. I like ugly think the interface is a great idea. I will buy it and find a way to use it. Let's go. Remember coaltrol - A computerized interface what do I need that for. I've been feeding my coal fire for years without problems and all that electric stuff is just problems and then when the power goes out... you get it.... all those thoughts are correct and yet I will now never buy a fire without the sophistication of a coaltrol unit or better. When the power goes out I will curse but when it comes back on again I will go on as before. HTTP addresses- $50 web cams attached.. I am already salivating.

Imagine being at work and talking to the Coal-trol! Going home early, weather changing, company coming over and we do the adjustments from work. What next a robot to take out the ashes? Keep up the good ideas.

Uhhhhhooooom the camera is a good idea, just imagine, a live picture of your stoker flames on a 62" HDTV screen for the whole meeting to see.
Beside all this, even if NOTHING changes, I'm overjoyed with the coaltrol, right now its running at 25 feed rate in the basement, 70 in the house.
I was so comfortable with this Pocono/Coaltrol unit that me brought in one of those green plastic adirondack chairs, put it in front of the Poco and let the warm air wash my face like a Brazilian sea breeze, all this is just toooo good.

With all the crap on TV the idea of a 70" screen watching the fire is tooo good. Trouble is the sight of the fire lasted about one month b4 the the glass frosted over - sigh. Love that orange glow though and after a few beers you can imagine all sorts of shapes in the glow. Still beats the TV. Somebody one day will come out with that computer interface and they will be saying - where did that market go?

Well Sierra thought I had a robot to take out the ashes but now she tells as she cooks dinner that will have to be enough.
