This is what I did to my TLC2K

I beefed up the Fire Brick TLC Long & Short Brick Support angle Iron. I got tired of the rear fire bricks leaning forward and cracking. I went to a local Amish machine shop and purchased a 10’ section 1/8” X 1 ¼” angle iron stock for the rear and side supports and 10’ of bar stock for the front three Coal Bars. I also had them cut me a 10” X 11” 3/16 piece of steel plate for the back Fire Brick. I chop sawed the front Coal bars a bit longer then supplied. I got tired of the issue with them warping and falling out of the holders after season three.

As you know they break down/warp after multiple seasons of use. Maybe over kill on the angle iron and I lost small amount of firebox sizing. The 3/16 steel plate did warp inward but I can’t detect and heating efficiency loss. Not having to deal with the rear firebrick falling forward and cracking has made use of the stove a bit less frustrating for me with no shut downs so far to replace rear fire brick. I can’t remember if I used this for the front brick. With the 10”X11” steel plate I added two rear fire brick laying horizontal in the rear. I know of only one time when I over fired the stove.

The sized up Brick Support angle Iron fit with no problem within the tab supports that retain the original toy fire Brick Support angle iron supplied with the stove. This is my 4th season with the TLC 2000. It heats the whole house with no issue with 1.5 to 2 buckets a day.

I have some pics attached. I’ll post back at the end of the heating season and report back on the Brick Support angle Iron upgrade and see what condition it’s in. Be interesting to see if I made it through the season with no rear fire bricks cracking and falling apart. Stove has been running continuously since Turkey day…..Dick
