Metal detecting in Pa.

Does anyone know of any spots to do Metal detecting in Pennsylvania? A friend mentioned around old foundations and Glacial rock deposits. Just thought someone would have a few good ideas. Got a metal detector and don't where to use it.

I used to go to some places in NEPA, it was gas and water company land i think. There was old roads in the woods and i did find a few old foundations but never any coins except 1 1912 nickle. What happened was i found old glass bottles while walking near these foundations and started digging and collecting them. You basically need permission to search private property so that is the thing you need to work on.

Come to think of it, I know of a few old farm foundations on state game lands. Maybe that will be a good place to start.

I`m pretty sure the state frowns on metal detectors on state lands, seem to remember reading that somewhere. At least in Pa., I know some city 7 county parks don`t seem to mind, picnic areas are said to be good spots.

Yeah, don't dig on state game lands whatever you do....You will get in more trouble than you can handle if they catch you....They highly frown on it in PA.....

Did some checking on an old farm last week and found what I think is a Meteorite. It's black and quite heavy for it's size, only thing i have found in my research is it should be attracted by a magnet which it is not, any way of finding out what it is?

Anytime dirt is being moved around, it opens the opportunity for you to explore what may have been previously unreachable. Old houses and buildings that are being torn down are also great spots for metal detecting.
