Why would he need a license unless he actually shot it. He just picked up a fresh killed deer, he didn't hunt it.Sunny Boy wrote:Permission is needed to go on any private land in NY State, too.
What I was told was that where the land owner broke the law was in taking possession of the deer that died on his land when he didn't have a hunting license for deer. Sad to say, but If he'd left the dead deer to rot he wouldn't have been in trouble.

This was posted at 6:45pm Thurs., now Sat.am & we assume that the cops did the worst ? Guess I should goggle news for that area for that night. ........ Goggle turned up no police standoff over coal fumes,no obituary for coal fumes fight with neighbors,no mention of coal fumes disturbance at all........ maybe the coal fumes wiped out the whole town & nobody knows it yet.GaryFerg wrote:so today just now 4 police cars rolled up be cause she complained about smoke filled house. really 4 police cars? must have been a slow night.

In PA anyways, (and my limited understanding of game law) In a nutshell, the State owns the deer, you have to have a "permit" to possess said deer, whether it be through hunting or picking up a road kill. The first would be the "tag" from your hunting license, the second a game warden issues to you (this has changed some in past years). To have in your possession a deer or parts there of without a tag would constitute unlawful taking. The gentleman in question caught in the act of possessing a shot deer w/o a license, would have been guilty of poaching in the eyes of the State.coaledsweat wrote:Why would he need a license unless he actually shot it. you know I told them that I was tired of the harassment and they said it wasn't harassment. My way of thinking when the police are at your door for no good reason its harassment. She is telling them that I am burning garbage I guess from what the cops say. I had the stoker going this time as well as my Harman stove the Harman burns nut. They always tell me I am not doing anything wrong or illegal. I am thinking wait till its going all summer too now what you got!

This wasn't a case of accidental road kill where your allowed to take a road killed deer.coaledsweat wrote:Why would he need a license unless he actually shot it. This was a case of illegal possession. It's against the law to take someone else's legally shot deer unless they sign the deer over to you. The land owner refused to allow my friend to retrieve his legally shot deer and took it for himself thus breaking the law.

Sounds like she's escalating. You might want to go into CYA mode.GaryFerg wrote:you know I told them that I was tired of the harassment and they said it wasn't harassment. It's good idea to bypass any patrol guys who might not want to do paperwork so they tell you this isn't harassment. If it were me, I'd call the police headquarters and talk to someone higher up the food chain to see about filing a complaint against her for harassment. At the least you'll be on record as having tried.
If things should ever get to the SHTF stage and there's no record of your trying then everyone can say you didn't do anything so how bad could it be ?
