Ahh I see,,,,that makes me feel better about the 55FA..havent seen it yet,but will keep up with the post for other newbys to the coal burning community..

Thanks Fred for notifying me about this thread coming back to life. I can't speak for the 55FA, but the 82FA is one heating mofo! I burned both wood and coal very well in my 82FA. If I loaded it up with nut coal, it would burn 24 hours with a shake down at 12 hours. I have a 1250 sq. ft. house that is very poorly insulated, and with the stove set high enough to burn efficiently, without just smoldering, I couldn't get it under 80 degrees all winter! The windowstats were put to use often.

55FA has the firebrick standing upright (4x9 Firebrick), 82FA also has the firebrick standing upright (4x13).

The actual firebox size on the 55FA is around 22" deep x 18" high.

no74falcon wrote:I just put in an 82FA in October. What would you like to know? I can tell you one thing for sure, I probably should have got a 55FA! All BS aside, the damn thing works great and I couldn't be any happier. In order for it to run efficient, I can't get the house under 80 with anything but a smoldering underfired burn going. I purchased it to burn mostly wood but it is going to make a great coal burner, once the idiot running the stove figures out how to use it properly! I love it and will be more than happy to answer ANY questions you have. I checked out some other brands and was still worried about my decision, but without bashing them, I am positive I made the right choice.

I was wondering how close can the furnace be to a non combustionable wall
