My uncle just gave me a hand-fired Montgomery Ward model 81-SDL56201 coal stove. I found out through calling various stove retailers that you cannot use a power vent or direct vent system with hand fired stoves. Upon looking up Class A chimney pipe, I found that the cost for me to run a two story chimney will outweigh my pocket! Does anyone know where to get this pipe at better prices, or know another way to make the pipe chimney more cost efficient. I can't vent it into my existing brick chimney because my natural gas vents through it.
Thanks

Well I ll give u 2 answers. Either look on craigslist. Sometimes there is used pipe. That's where I sold mine. And, a masonry chimney twenty feet will run u around 700 bucks or so in materials if ya know how to do it yourself

The other option is that if your masonry chimney is correct for your coal stove,, use a powervent for the NG heating unit, since it can be turned on and off with the gas burner.. hook the coal burner to the masonry chimney since it is a batch-burner, and needs a full time draft.

I agree with Capecoaler and Greg L., Give the coal stove the masonry chimney all to itself. What kind of water heater do you have though? If it's natural gas then you might want to install a class B type gas vent/chimney up through the house for the gas water heater and furnace. That would be lots cheaper than class A chimney.
gitrdonecoal's ideas are good too.

My water heater and boiler are both natural gas. I thought, and please correct me if I am wrong, that you needed appliances rated for power venting in order to power vent them. These two gas appliances are who knows how old, they were here when I bought the house. If I am wrong about the power venting, then thank-you for all the help and I will take the advice given!

Here is what I did faced with the similar problem and unable at the moment to afford a Class A chimney.
I had a natural gas furnace and hot water heater piped into the same clay chimney that was built for it when the house was built. I checked into the chimney requirements for my furnace and found out that I could get away with a Class B chimney for it, and then calculated, added the extra requirements for the hot water heater and found that I could use a 4" chimney pipe. So I went and purchased the 4" class B chimney, picked up the pipe at the local "L" home improvement place for about a quarter of the price of a class A.
Now I have a class B chimney for the furnace and hot water heater and I use the clay chimney for my stove.
Just a thought, since I can't afford 2 cents...
